My body decided it was time to be awake at around 3:30 in the morning, only a mere two hours after I fell asleep. This seemed to become a regular thing, something that made the constant bags under my eyes darker and heavier. Doubting my ability to fall asleep quickly, I decided to make a cup of tea.

Lifting my body from it's comfortable position, I headed towards the kitchen, the patter of my feet on the tiles being the only sounds heard. Once the drink was complete with it's two sugars and milk, I began slurping on the warm drink.

Since I was up, I also decided it would be a good time to take a smoke break. It was something I occasionally did that began a few years back. I knew it could kill me, but so can everything else right?

I was sitting on a bench across from the building I lived in, staring at the vacant streets. Pulling a cigarette in my lips, I lit it and inhaled.

My gaze lifted towards the building after hearing a door open and shut. Exiting was a rather tall figure, wearing a grey hoody and jeans. They looked up and met my gaze, causing me to look away. Looking back, I grew somewhat confused as the figure was making their way towards me, with what I could tell, was a pack in their hands as well.

"This spot taken?" The man spoke quietly in a deep accent. I shook my head as I blew out some smoke, taking in his appearance. He had dark hair that stood at all ends, scruff on his jaw, and eyes that were dark, but not dark enough to be brown so I assumed them to be dark blue.

He sat himself down on the opposite side of the bench, quickly lighting on and pulling it to his mouth. We then sat in a comfortable silence, both respecting the silence we found comfort in, or were to shy to say anything.

That was until I grew curious on why he was out here at this time and decided to ask about it.

"Honestly, I'm scared to sleep." was his reply, and I didn't disagree with it at all.

"I understand, but for me I'm note scared of the waking up part." I said, almost in a whisper. He looked to meet my gaze, and he stared right into my soul. Dark and light blue intently mingling for the time it lasted, before we both looked down shyly.

"I'm Dan by the way," he stated, looking around at the scenery.

"Jade, nice to meet you Dan." I replied.

The silence grew again, until I was finally finished and stood to leave. As I turned to say goodbye, he stood as well, "Let me walk you to your room, there might be someone waiting to snatch you up"

I laughed a little, accepting his offer. We crossed the street and entered, before climbing the many steps to my room.

"What level are you on?" I asked, curious on if I would see him often.

"This one actually." He replied with a smile. I smiled back, before making my way towards my door.

Once we reached it, I turned to him and thanked him for being am escort. He smiled softly at me, nodding before saying, "If you ever need anything, I'm next door, okay?" Then turned to the door to our left, waving before entering. It was also the room where I heard the beautiful lyrics that brought me comfort.
