Nothing sucks more than getting eaten alive, right? The old me would've said yes.

I was wrong. Returning to the land of living six feet under, after getting eaten alive definitely topped that.

Yep, that happened to me.

I woke up to an oppressive darkness, the searing agony still fresh in my mind, but all I felt was a great pressure from all sides, tuning me into a pancake. Sadie pancake... Sounds delicious. I started wiggling, seeking an escape from my increasingly uncomfortable cocoon.

I didn't know how long have passed since my awakening, but it certainly wasn't short. Eventually, instead of the moist dirt, something else brushed my hands. It felt... airy, gently smoothing across my skin. It was so light that it almost seemed non-existent, yet it was there, all around my hand.

As my head broke through the soft dirt, I winced from the light. Ouch... That hurts. Blinking away angry tears, I was amazed by how clear and vivid my surroundings are. It was like a veil was lifted from my eyes; it was like I was seeing through dirty lenses my entire life, and now they were sparklingly clean.

I then took a deep breath. Thousands upon thousands of scents assaulted my nose at once. I could smell the crisp scent of grass; the sweetness of honey somewhere; and many more that I don't recognise. But above all, there was one that captured my attention. There was this nagging in my head; this craving, to go to that sweet tang I could clearly smell in the air and feast upon it.

I proceeded to dig myself up from the grave, literally. Someone even had the time to make a tombstone for me. When I find that muppet who did this, I'm going to throttle them so hard they would turn into jello...

Staggering down the hill, I saw figures staggering around the village, with blood spattered all over them. There's one thing in common with all of them though – they all have blue eyes. Glossy, lifeless eyes, in the clearest blue shade I've ever seen. All of them had turned, reduced to nothing more than a rabid dog. Here goes nothing... I strode onto the main street.

I attracted attention immediately. One of the infected snarled and staggered towards me, with her teeth bared in anticipation of the kill. Almost instinctively, I rounded on her with a snarl. Woah, did I just make that sound? There was a part of me that was insulted by her challenge; was nagging me to take a swipe at her, to put her in her place. With another snarl, I pounced on her and left a handful of bloody furrows on her arms. The infected growled lowly and staggered off.

Okie... What just happened? It seems like I am faster them that infected and she recognised that. But why didn't she continue to come for my blood, like they had before? Strange...

With a huff, I stalked off towards the mess that was my house. The car was gone, that's good. At least I didn't get chewed on for nothing... The door was smashed in and most of the furniture was in shambles. That was less good. There were blood stains everywhere. On the floor; on the walls; on the broken pieces of furniture; even on the celling. The house looked like a murder scene. Well...

I changed into a pair of jeans and shirt and packed my bag. As I was leaving, I caught a glimpse of me in the bathroom mirror. Oh... Oh. My once brown eyes were now blue, the same shade of blue, with that little amber ring crowning the ice blue, as the infected outside, but more alert.

I was one of them.

The winds were howling in the good night,

And I'm lying awake inside my tent, contemplating my day.

I had thought that the day infected show up was the weirdest day in my life, but today definitely tops it. Coming back to life after dying via being eaten alive by real life zombies, check. Waking up buried five feet under, check. Being infected with the virus, check. What else? Ah yes, I also now have some crazy instincts demanding blood and raw meat. Ugh.

Well it's not like I could sleep, I might just go and follow my crazy instincts. The crazy train had already left the station, might as well enjoy the ride. I left the tent and walked into the forest, letting my instincts guide me. It's your crazy party. It'll be your rule.

My instincts didn't disappoint me. It nudged me at a direction where a wet, nutty smell came from, and I followed. It was a pair of squirrels. At that point, I felt something cold in the back of my mind surfacing and covering me. My body moved without my command, slowly stalked towards the squabbling pair on the branch and pounced. My hands easily catching both critters and snapped their necks. It didn't take long for my body to tear into the meat and devour everything but the bones. Ewwwww, guess I would've to get used to it.

I crawled back into my tent after devouring my prey, leaving the organs for local predators. I must be more tired than I thought, as I fell asleep even before my head touched the pillow.

As much as I wanted to, my body had a different idea about sleeping in late. I woke up just a few hours after I fell asleep, just when the sun was peaking over the horizon. I remembered that there was a creek just next to the town, after packing up everything, I tracked there for a bath. A bath and a change of clothes later, I felt much refreshed and was filled up my water bottle. Oh well, it's time to search for Kailey and Ash. I capped the bottle and started off on my quest.
