"Somi! Stop playing games on me," her hands are now shaking, her whole body was sweating cold, her face is turning pale, her body was telling her to turn back.
She spotted a dark scarlet liquid from one tile, second to the wall. Astrid, being the curious girl she is, walked towards the foreign substance and took a closer look.
Huh..
She touched the slimey, gooey stuff - finding out that it smells like trash, immediately washing her hands to the sink.
With her nose scrunched, she harshly rubbed off the red sticky liquid. It was almost impossible to get rid of the stain. Astrid rubbed her hand even harder, making her hand turn into a shade of red. Her palm barely let the scarlet goo go.
Giving up, she grabbed the towel and wiped her hands dry, looking in the mirror as she did so.
Probably the worst decision she could've done.
An ear piercing scream came from her mouth, pushing the creature from herself, trying to get out of the bathroom.
A pale, almost blue skin, with veins visible to the layers of it's skin, blood on it's mouth, nails turned into claws, and brain programed to do one thing, - to eat humans.
a zombie.
Astrid started breathing heavily, still trying to push the person, the animal? the creature of some sort. She kicked the zombie on it's stomach, making it grunt, body flying to the bathroom wall.
She widened her eyes, mouth turning dry as she stared at the zombie. Scrambling up to her feet, she exhaled sharply, thinking about the kids.
She turned to the door, fumbling with the knob, but was stopped when a hand grabbed her ankle.
Astrid let out a scream, kicking off the hand on her feet. "What the heck!?" she cried out, looking around for a weapon. Spotting a curtain rod, she mentally prepared herself for what she'll do.
She watched a lot of movies involving zombies and apocalypses, one thing she knows- don't let it bite you. So, keeping the zombie's mouth far from her limbs, she reached for the rod, hitting the zombie's hand.
Short, heavy breaths came out of Astrid's mouth, tears welling up on her ducts. She glared at the creature in front of her, thinking about how it was made.
Without the girl noticing, the zombie slowly stood up, pain evident on it's face.
"Help me, Astrid. I don't know what's happening,"
"Somi," Astrid's eyes widened, moving closer. Somi's features were still visible but she didn't want to believe what she was seeing at the moment.
A zombie apocalypse? Now? Impossible.
"Astrid? What's going on?" Hwayoung's soft voice was heard from the other side of the room. She knocked on the door before opening it.
Astrid immediately faced the girl, "Look, Hwayoung, no time to explain. This is what I want you to do. You're a good girl aren't you?" She tucked Hwayoung's hair behind her ears with her shaky hands. Her breaths were rapid.
Hwayoung nodded, softly smiling at her new friend, oblivious to what's happening.
"Great. In my jacket, there's a phone. I need to call someone. There's this app, called contacts okay? Look for the name Rina, or Gray, whoever comes first. Call them and tell them to pack for necessities, go to my house and tell the other."
A grunt was heard from behind Astrid making her panic even more, more than she already is.
"Go!" she pushed Hwayoung out, shutting the door close.
Astrid exhaled, clenching her fists.
"Somi, I don't want to hurt you," she said sadly, staring at the infected girl.
"Astrid, push me off the window. I- It hurts. I can't bear it anymore." Somi held Astrid's hands, placing it to her shoulders and leading them to the bathroom window. Somi's head was pounding, it feels like it's splitting in half. She groaned, enduring it more in order to not hurt her new friend.
"We're at the fourth floor!"
"Exactly! Before I do something bad, please," Somi begged. Her eyes were turning grey and her skin was getting more blue.
"I can't," Astrid cried, guilty.
"My brain! I can't control it for much longer, it hurts so much! please just do it,"
"I'm sorry,"
And there she was, falling freely before landing on the highway, blood everywhere.
Astrid knelt down, hands on her mouth, sobbing. She was shocked, traumatized, sad, angry, everything - she felt it.
"Astrid!" Gray came in running, hugging the girl once she saw her. Astrid leaned in to the girl's embrace, crying harder. Her breaths were uneven and her tears flowed down like a river, soaking Gray's shirt.
"Are you okay? What happened? Why are you crying?"
"A zombie apocalypse is starting, we must protect the kids... at all cost."
........................................................................
Woah... There it is. What do you think? They'll need to survive the apocalypse - harsh truth, that's hard to do. Also! Happy New Year to everyone! It's almost 2021. Let's hope for new beginnings and more happiness to everyone.
We'll see what happens next in another update :)
