Goth lay sprawled half upside-down on the couch, letting his skull, hood and scarf loll off the seat cushion towards the ground. His lone eye light only half taking in the parade of Christmas specials that had been on all day. Palette had run out earlier, errands he claimed, Goth suspected he forgot about gifts until the last minute again, his memory wasn't as bad as Ink's, but he did sometimes have issues with it. Goth sighed as the Grinch started playing for the umpteenth time, he had been planning on seeing his mom and dad today, but then his mom had an episode with his old injury. Reaper said they didn't need to go to the hospital for it, but Goth was still worried, his mom's health had always been precarious...
Maybe it was because he was lost in thoughts about the welfare of his family that he missed the sound of keys in the lock and the door creaking open.
Palette blinked in confusion seeing his best friend on the couch, but he needed to get the gifts to his room before he could wonder about Goth's presence. He could have sworn the smaller said he was visiting his parents today, though the very thought of his best friend being gone to see family; caused Palette's soul to ache. He had no idea where his dad was, and his mom hated this time of year. Dream always spent it thinking about Nightmare, since the twins birthday was only a few days before Christmas. Palette sighed as he tucked the gifts away in his closet, His own family problems could wait, he needed to check on his roommate.
Goth was startled out of his train of thought by a weight suddenly landing on the couch next to him. "Anything good on Gothy?" Palette? How had Goth not heard him get back? Flushed lavender the smaller immediately tried to right himself on the couch, but in doing so he actually caused his hand to slip, sending him falling into Palette's lap. It took all his willpower not to die of embarrassment right then and there; he forced himself up and scooted away from his best friend, hood pulled down over his skull, which, had transitioned from a light lavender brushing to a full on purple mess. Finally when he had himself situated in the corner of the sofa as far from Palette as he could manage he finally registered the taller's question.
"Oh, no, not really, just the same Christmas stuff that's been on every day this month." He hoped his voice didn't betray his self-consciousness.
"Hey Gothy didn't you say you were visiting your parents today?" Goth all but felt his soul plummet from inside his ribcage.
"Well, I was... but.... My dad called not long after you left, mom is having trouble with his injury again. Dad wouldn't tell me how bad it was, only that they didn't have to go to the hospital."
Palette looked at his companion with concern, he knew how much Goth worried about mister Geno's injury, and the few times Palette had seen it act up were always really scary. He moved over closer to his roommate before pulling the smaller into a hug, "well we still have each other for the holidays at least!" It was what both of them needed, to not be alone. He felt Goth's body relax slightly and the smaller skeleton looked up at his companion with his single eye light.
"Yeah, thanks for being here with me Palette."
