An Uncorrupted Figurine

By PJ Perry

She looked so beautiful lying there

So elegant and serene

Her skin tone perfect and ever so fair

An uncorrupted figurine

In a dress made of the finest silk

The one she first wore in the meadow

Whiter than even the purest milk

A vision that I'll never let go

I gently kissed her cheek

Stroked the other with my hand

Like I did every hour of the week

She was everything that I hadn't planned

Her hair moved slightly with the breeze

'I'll see you soon' was what I said

I moved in to give her a last squeeze

And for a moment I forgot she was dead

My memory won't allow her to wither

During her trip to the afterlife

As the coffin lid closes darkness consumes her

She was as striking in death as she was in life
