He Wanted Me More

I hold my breath

You breathe your last

I wait for Death

To reap your past

You know he comes

Any moment now

You will succumb

The final bow

I hold you close

He intervenes

A darkened ghost

Your soul he gleans

Your final gasp

My sudden tears

A screaming rasp

Of all my fears

Death's excited

And changed his course

I've ignited

His inner force

He heard me whisper

Take me instead

It sounded crisper

In my head

A deal's a deal

All said and done

There's no appeal

Nowhere to run

A better prize

Right now for him

So no surprise

As my eyes dim

Sorry my love

I couldn't stay

I'm unworthy of

Life's night and day

A cowards way out you see

What was I to do?

You can live without me

But not I without you
