                                                     Chapter 22: Zane

With her sleeping next to me, with her face in my shoulder, it’s hard to be mad at her for what she did. I know she did it to rescue me, but she needs to lie down and rest. Because of our DNA differences, the babies could come at nine months, or twelve, and I really didn’t want her to go into labor at some random time. Pandora, why must you insist on putting yourself in danger? Feeling her stir and mumble under her breath, she wakes.

“Morning…” She mumbles.

“Care to explain your reasoning to last night? Even if you’re adorable I’m still…irritated.”

“Because despite how you think of me as disabled now that I’m really huge I need you to let it go. I love you, and I missed you. I thought you were being tortured or something.”

“What about your leader? What are you going to do to him?”

“I have a few choice words, mind you, but still. You could have been injured.”

“Zane,” she grabs my face in her hands, “I love how you worry about me, but I wasn’t going to get hurt. I’m pretty sneaky, even if I’m nine months with two buns in my oven.”

“I know that…I just,” I began, but thought better of it. “Do you know what I am to you, and you to me?”

“Your baby mama?” I chuckled, and turned on my side.

“Well, yes, but you are much more than that. I love you, and this love is even stronger because you are my Bond. Do you know what that means?” I was generally curious to see what she said.

“You and Herisan were Bonds, is that like marriage?”

“Yes, but even more important,” I said, trying to give her the importance of Bonds. If she understood, perhaps she wouldn’t indanger herself as often. Losing a Bond is like…losing half of your soul.

When Herisan died, I wasn’t the same person. I didn’t want to eat, sleep; basically, I was sedated every time I needed to go to bed. I didn’t know how to express this to her, but I knew that losing Pandora, after Herisan, might just kill me.

“If I lost you, do you know what would happen? I would die, as most would, if their second Bonds died.” I waited till it sunk in, and she hugged me, well, as close to a hug as you could approximate with her pregnancy. Good, I needed the point across.

“Do you know what would happen if I lost you?” She asked, her green eyes looking into mine. “I think my life would really start sucking…” I laugh and she elbows me in the gut.

“Ow!” True, it didn’t really hurt, but I knew she needed the assurance that she could ‘hurt’ me to make her feel better.

“Oh, if it actually hurt you’d be on the ground, because I wouldn’t elbow you in the gut. I would knee you in-,” she began, and then someone tapped my shoulder.

“Jett! Do you knock?”

“Well, I live next door, you’ve been gone for awhile, and Jade is…sleeping.” Pandora cocked her eybrow at him, while I nodded in understanding. The only reason he would put her to sleep was so both of us could leave for a meeting.

“Panda, I gots to go, as you say it,” I said, and she giggled. “Do not…break anything, you can play around with Jade if you want.”

“Captain, from what Tallik and I have seen, the tunnels the Volddin have created are quite extensive. He could not even search the minds of them, they’re so far down, I bet it is warmer.”
