"Now runt. You must be careful when it comes to a human village. Even if it looks abandoned as this one does. As this one looks like just became this state so we will be going through it to find leftover food. So you will be on your own until I give the signal to meet back up. Now as the runt you will lead us into the village unless you don't think you can."

"I can, Alpha." My father smiled. I turned around and ran to the Village border then snuck around buildings.

As I was checking a house I heard crying. It was the saddest cry I had ever heard. Sadder then on Moon Day; the day everyone mourns for their lost and dead loved ones. Following it to a closed door, I looked for other ways in. The crying was my only drive. I wouldn't stop until I got to it and made it stop however I could.

I eventually found a weird small passageway. Following it, the crying got louder and my heart started to feel heavy. What could make something cry like this? As I got to the other side all I saw was this cage, missing its top, laying on its side. Inside the cage was what I was told was a human.

I sat down and looked at it. It wasn't big, or scary, and there was no way it was a killer. Just sad, lonely, and smaller than me. Walking over I nuzzled it gently. It responded by hugging me and beginning to cry into my cub fur. I tried to pick it up but it was too heavy even at its small size. Then I heard a howl. My dad! I tried my best and took the human with me to meet the others.

When I finally got back I saw they were going to leave. I howled. They turned around. All of the males froze, except my father.

"Why did you bring a human here!"

"It won't let go. And it's too heavy to get off." I lied.

"Then kill it." He said staring at me with those eyes that meant this was a test. A test I was fixing to fail because I cared for this human.

     "But you didn't hear it."

"Hear what! The lies it told you to keep its life. Kill it!"

"No, it never talked to me. Take every sad cry you've ever heard and add them together all through your life and you'll still never hear the noise I heard. It was broken and lost. When I got close to see if it was dying it latched on in a hug and cried into my fur."

"Kill it or you can stay with it! Pitty is a weakness and will only lead to death."

"Then let me die! I will stay with this human if it means it won't cry as it did again."

"Then stay away from the pack grounds trader! We leave now." The rest of the males looked at me sadly. Some nodded as they left. I saw one mouth something to me but I didn't care to pay any attention to him. I started my shuffle back to where the human was safe and found. I'd go get food later when it fell asleep and I could get it off. Especially when I knew it was safe.
