-3rd Person POV-

Derek smiles to himself as he looks at the picture of Mitch he took.

He takes time to appreciate how Mitch is trying to settle back in. It's almost as if he never left.

It breaks his heart to see him so broken, but to Derek he's just as beautiful as he used to be. Just slightly more damaged. But isn't everyone is some kind of way? Everyone is at least a bit damaged.

Mitch just a little more then the teenager should be. But then again; Derek still finds him as beautiful as before he went missing. When he was Stiles.

When he was truly happy. But, was he? Was he ever happy? Not faking, carefree, not putting up walls. That hasn't changed a bit about him. The only difference? Mitch has a more broken look in his eyes then Stiles. Stiles used to try and let no-one see but Mitch doesn't care. Mitch doesn't care because he feels like no-one cares for him so why should he?

Derek scrolls through his photo's and finds a picture from before Stiles went missing. He smiles at the goofy smile and buzzcut he had. He compares the two pictures. You can see the pain on Mitch his face and the hidden pain on Stiles'.

Mitch is just the true Stiles, the Stiles without the mask of happiness.

Everyone is at school right now and Derek really starts thinking. What if he tried harder to make Mitch happy again? Mitch won't ever be truly happy, he knows that because the past always finds a way to haunt you. Always.

But he could try harder, couldn't he?

Oh he will. He will try a lot harder. That's a promise he made to himself, if Mitch is trying so hard to fit back in (which Derek finds unnecessary; why does he have to try so hard and not anyone else?) then he could try at least half as hard.

Derek looks further into his photos and sees a photo of Jennifer. Bitch. Then of Kate. Bigger bitch. Why does he even still has them? He shakes his head and presses delete.

Derek smirks when a thought pops into his head; Mitch and Derek never said if they're actually a thing, so he's taking Mitch on a date. What would Mitch like?

Maybe not a dinner. He doesn't even know where they would go. A movie? No, Mitch used to watch a lot of them, he probably saw them all so that'd be boring for him.

Wait! Maybe the Argent shooting range? He said throwing knives calms him down so that means he enjoys it right? Derek also saw him operate with a gun, it looked like he knew what he was doing. Sure it might not be the most romantic date but perhaps Mitch would like it?

He should probably be a gentleman and give him a gift. Maybe curly fries? No, Derek doesn't know if he still likes those. He probably does but he doesn't want to take a risk.

Maybe a riffle? No, he doesn't know what Mitch would like. He calls Lydia. She'll know what to get him.

Lydia Derek (phone call)

"This better be important Derek. I'm in school."

"I need your help. So I want to take Mitch on a date and I don't know what to get him as a gift."
