~ Chapter 8 ~

“Lexi!!! Are you ready to go?!” I yelled down the hall towards my sister’s bedroom. Why does she always take so dang long? I’ve been in my room doing nothing, but staring at the wall for the last 20 minutes.

“Five more minutes!” I heard her call back. Great, 5 minutes to her means 15 minutes to me. I have nothing to do...maybe I’ll call Tom to catch up on things. I haven’t seen him or heard from him in a whole week. And I miss him too. He always made me feel at peace like nothing would ever go wrong again. It’s like he’s the father Lexi and I need; he completes the picture.

I walk over to my bedside table where my blackberry is and dial tom’s number. “Hello?” He says groggily. It’s only 7 o’clock and he’s asleep?

“Hey Tom!” I say cheerily, “How’s it going up there? Still cold? I haven’t talked to you in too long.”

“Tori?”

“Yea, that’s me.”

“Hey, cupcake!” That’s his nickname for me. When I first met him at 12 years old, I was kinda chubby and loved wearing colorful clothes. He told me that I reminded him of a cupcake, hence my nickname. I know, weird story right? “I’m doing fine up here, but I’m so lonely...” Tom said sarcastically.

“Awww, Tom! I thought I’d never hear you say you actually miss us,” I replied chuckling.

“You better savor this moment then.”

“O, I will.”

“Well enough about me, how are you doing down there? The mission’s going ok?” Tom asked curiously.

“Yea I guess so. Today I’m going over to Alex’s house so I’ll be able to get more info on Jackson.”

“That’s terrific! You guys work fast!”

My bedroom door slammed open and there stood Lexi. “Tom?! Is that you?!” she squealed at my phone. Ahhh, my ears! Dang it Lexi! She snatched the phone out of my hands and placed it on her ear.

“Tom! I miss you so much! You should come and visit us! I know you’re all lonely up there,” Lexi said teasingly. Man, she’s like a freaking physic mind reader.

“Well, now that I think about about it, I think I will,” I heard Tom’s murmured voice through my phone.

“Really?” Lexi looked at me with excitement in her eyes while she bounced up and down on my bed. There goes my hard work folding the bed sheets...

“Yup!” Tom replied popping the ‘p’, “I’ll be down there on Sunday!” And with that he hung up. Well, that was rude! He didn’t even say bye, I guess he’s busy with the agency.

I took my phone from my sister’s hand, “You ready to go now?”

“Yea, but I need help finding the right shoes. What do you think matches my outfit best? Sneakers or boots?” She was wearing long capris with a checkered collared shirt that was unbuttoned. Underneath was a tee that said ‘kiss me‘ on it.

“Uhhh, I think sneakers, but is the shirt really necessary?” I asked.

“What? I can be your distraction when you go sneaking around Alex’s house. It’s the perfect plan,” she said innocently.
