::CHAPTER 13::

The next morning I was irritable. I’d hoped for more memories of a younger me but nothing. A regular, dreamless sleep had kept me under for the few hours until I woke at six. In the morn. Of all the ungodly hours to be awake. Now I sat here in the kitchen thanking the deities of the world that I didn’t have to drink bottled blood. I had feed in the days before so it wasn’t necessary to grab breakfast. Although on an immortal schedule it was practically dinner.

I had showered and dressed already and was patiently waiting on the girls to get ready. From the little I knew of human females, they tended to take a while to do just that. Make up and shoes and hair and whatnot. I had more than enough time to myself for the moment. That sentiment shattered a second later.

A human youth strode in and tugged the fridge open. He started piling things into his arms seemingly unaware of my presence. That was entirely possible considering how still I was sitting in the far corner of the kitchen.

The boy placed the things onto the counter and began making a sandwich that was surely eligible for some world record. I wondered if his outwardly lean body was hiding three other stomachs. There was no way he could eat the entire thing and survive. Out of sheer curiosity I sat and watched him devour the whole thing bite by bite. I blinked in shock. Not much startled me, but even I had thought he’d keel over after the first half.

“Kyle, did you finish the bread again?” Loki sighed walking in.

“Yes, sir. I used my own money on my food like you suggested.” I suspected it was more order than suggestion.

“Good. I think you were starting to bankrupt me on bread alone,” he said and grabbed a bottle of blood from the cooling crate before heating it, “Did you take care of rounds?”

“Of course, sir.”

“Of course?” Loki repeated catching the incredulous tone in the boy’s response, “Are you assuming that I should automatically know when you have and haven’t been doing your duties?”

“No, sir.”

“And by extension I haven’t been doing my job as Master of the house by knowing these minor details in my own household,” he neared the boy who suddenly seemed two feet shorter than his five feet eight or nine inches.

“I-I’m sorry, sir. I didn’t mean to offend you.”

“Your intensions were in vain then, weren’t they.” It wasn’t a question and Kyle was not stupid enough to treat it as one.

The smell of perfume and shampoo wafted into the kitchen at the presence of two other youths. The red headed siblings acknowledged the men in the room and started nibbling on a packet of cheese flavored crackers from the cupboard while sharing the glass of juice. They didn’t seem to be big eaters which explained Ana’s slender frame and Ria’s waif-ish appearance.

Ana was sitting with crossed legs in a pair of bleached grey, skin tight jeans and a loose fitting, long sleeved white t-shirt that bore one freckled shoulder. Her jade green flats, same colored dangling earrings, waist length chain and hair band brought attention to her green eyes which, in turn, brought your attention to her red hair. Her sister on the other hand wore a dress that mirrored her eye color perfectly and flowed to her knees in a material of thin, soft cotton that made it fit for casual wear. The airy, blue and white dress was held to her by a pair of slim straps but didn’t hug her body too closely for it to be inappropriate for school. Her simple, silver bracelet, earrings, necklace and hair clips added a subtle brightness to her that was hard to miss.
