Folk rock, in a broad sense, is a musical genre that combines elements of folk music, blues and rock, in many ways, folk-rock overlaps with other denominations applied to mergers of traditional American music and rock, as is the case of country rock or the so-called southern rock. It is a musical genre that emerged in the 20s in the rural regions of the South of the United States and the Maritime regions of Canada and Australia. In its origins, it combined the folk music of some European immigrant countries, mainly Ireland, with other musical forms, such as blues, bluegrass and spiritual and religious music, such as gospel.
