        "Disabled Parakeet"

         by Summer Cheng

      I have this baby bird,

as some of you have heard,

well, he is unable to walk normal,

     that is to say,

    he tends to walk,

with one leg to the side,

and the other out in front:

   oh, my poor bird,

   is  disabled.

   This disabled parakeet,

    he can tweet,

     he can eat,

    he can drink his water,

he can even make me smile,

    as he flies,

  around in his cage,

   he can be happy,

   and I can be glad,

    he is my bird,

even though he can not walk,

   he can still squawk!

    This baby bird,

     whose dad,

    tried to harm him,

    is a cute,

    little thing,

   with green and yellow feathers,

his black stripes down his back,

his light blue colors near his feet,

   oh, he is so neat:

   my  Mel,

   my only baby bird,

   as you may have heard!

   Mel,

has his own cage,

  this way,

 his father,

can not push,

  him out of the way,

 his mother can not fuss,

  as his father,

while Mel just wants his food:

since his father can no longer be rude,

  to this little dude!

 Oh, my disabled parakeet,

might not be able to walk,

 but so what,

 he can talk,

he can eat,

he can drink,

 he can fly,

and he can make me smile,

so is this not what matters?

  For he is my pet,

 and I could care less,

what a vet,

or anyone else says,

 he is here to stay,

 today,

and everyday,

 with me,

as you can see!

My disabled parakeet,

 oh, he is so sweet:

 he sat on my hand,

once for awhile,

and this really made me smile!
