At first I didn't feel it. I just stared in horror at the handle sticking out of my chest. "Rachel NO!" The words came from Aris's lips. So many feelings surged through me.

I didn't feel myself collapse, I just knew I had. Blood sprayed out of my chest as I hit the floor. I heard shouts and cries. I felt a figure kneeling beside me. It wrapped its fingers around the handle and pulled it out of my chest. I felt the blade leave my skin.

I felt it.

Pain surged through my body. I felt stabs of pain shooting through my chest. I tried to scream out in agony, but my throat just gurgled. Everything hurt. My chest felt as if it had been pacled with dry ice the way it burned so much. Pain. So much pain. This was the moment I knew was coming. This was dying.

I lay in agony as blood poured from the hole in my chest. I felt it washing over my hands. My hair was matted and blood caked into it. I almost gagged.

Then I felt the numbness. The pain stopped. The burning stopped.

I went cold. I couldn't even feel my blood draining from my body.

The figure gently brushed my cheek. "Aris," I choked softly.

"I'm here," he said. I could hear the sob rising in his throat.

"I'm sorry. ..." I whispered.

"What why?"

"Because I promised. ........."

I heard him choke out a sob. I heard him heave and cry.

"I love you," he cried.

I could no longer feel the warmth of his hand against my cheek. Sound was replaced by a low buzz. My lungs screamed for air. They tried desperately to heave in oxygen. They stopped straining. I couldn't breathe anymore. My heart slowed down more as the seconds passed. Then, a orange ray of sunshine rested on my face. I saw orange clouds floating through the window. The sunset cast beautiful light against the darkening room, just before the world went black.

No sound. No light. No pain. No feeling. No fear. No chaos. Just peace.

Then I faded away, as if I were falling asleep for the final time.
