Chapter Four

"Have you and Roni got everything packed yet?" Mum asked me. I held the phone between my shoulder and my ear as I threw another pair of denims in Veronica's suitcase.

"Almost... what are out riding arrangements?" I replied.

"Karen and Geoff are taking Liam's rental and you, Veronica, and Liam will ride in our car."

"Why can't I take my car?" I whined as I thought of my beautiful, red Caliber in the parking garage six floors below me.

"Because you're my baby and you always ride with us to the cabin." I knew by her tone of voice that she meant business and there was no way through her.

"Fine. We're ready."

"Good! We're on our way over to get you right now."

"Bye, mum." But she had already hung up on me. "Let's put your shoes on." I said as I slipped my cell back in my pocket.

"No!" Veronica giggled and ran away from me. After about ten minutes of chasing her there was a knock at the apartment door. "Come in!" I called.

"So this is where you live." I heard a masculine voice say.

"Liam?" I poked my head out of the kitchen to see him standing in my living room wearing a tight, gray T-shirt and dark wash jeans. He looked kind of like a god. "What are you doing here?"

"Your dad told me to come up and get you." He said. "Do you need help with anything?"

"It would actually help me out a lot if you could get Veronica to put her shoes on while I fix my hair?" I gave him the puppy dog face and he laughed.

"No problem."

"Thanks! Her room is that one down there with the hello kitty poster on the door."

"Got it." He said as I went to the bathroom. As I was finishing up straightening my hair and putting it into a loose ponytail when I heard Liam arguing with Veronica.

"Will you please put on some shoes?" He begged.

"Why?" She used her nonchalant voice and I could picture her crossing her arms and smirking.

"Because your mum will kill me if I don't get you in your shoes."

"Why?"

"Because you need shoes?" It came out as sort of a question though.

"Why?"

"You're not going to get anywhere with that approach." I said as I stood in the doorway.

"What do I do?" Liam begged.

"We could always just leave without her." I suggested.

"I suppose we could." He pondered, catching on to my game quickly.

"Then it's settled. C'mon, Liam."

"Wait! I'll put my shoes on." She exclaimed as she slipped into a pair of sparkly pink flats. I held my hand up and Liam gave me a high five.

"Let's go!" I cried, grabbing her suitcase and my own as we headed out the door.

"What took you guys so long?" My dad asked when we appeared and loaded my bags into the trunk of their Jeep Commander.
