Hastily Scribbled A/N: After posting this, I am sorry to say that I must flee for my life. UnicornofHogwarts will most certainly kill me. That means, unless you guys can persuade her not to bludgeon me to death Lord Voldemort style, that I will be unable to post the next chapter on Monday or Tuesday of this upcoming week. You’ll want that one. I PROMISE you. So I’m bribing you, all of my readers, to persuade her not to kill me.

Of course, this chapter will make you want to kill me too…so maybe begging you guys wasn’t a smart move either. Oh well.

Oh, and you guys have no idea how hard it was to find a song for this chapter. I just choose an oldies because it’s awesome. So listen to it…or else.

VOTE BEFORE READING. So you can’t not do it afterwards. Love you guys!

“For too long, we have focused on our differences - in our politics and backgrounds, in our race and beliefs - rather than cherishing the unity and pride that binds us together.” – Bob Riley

As my luck would have it, I found Potter and Weasley first. They were talking quietly in the corner of the fourth corridor, Potter moving his hands to demonstrate something. I approach quickly, getting Weasley’s attention. Both pull out their wands and watch my approach. I sigh internally. Gits.

“Potter—” I stop as I realize the ridiculousness of this. They wouldn’t tell me a thing! I turn around without another word and walk away, leaving them confused. I head straight to the library where I knew Granger would be. I couldn’t believe I had sunk so low.

Not that I believed in the pureblood-mudblood crap anymore. Last summer had definitely changed that. But pretenses must be upheld until this bloody war was over.

I found her in the back, reading a thick volume while her quill took its own notes. She didn’t even show I was there as I stood before her, struggling with myself to speak.

“Granger”

“What do you want Malfoy?” She responds instantly in a monotone, turning the page.

“Granger…I …I need your help.” She freezes and looks up at me, studying my face. I shift uncomfortably.

“I have a name.” I give a mental groan. I don’t want to do this. Let me have some dignity left!

“Grang…Hermione, first of all, I want to apologize for everything I’ve done to you. It was horrible and disgusting and cruel and I’ll keep apologizing at every chance just to make sure you know.” I blurt out. She drops the book in shock, before a look of amusement crosses her face.

“What do you need Malfoy?” I squirm, very uncomfortable.

“What’s wrong with Grace?” I finally spit out. Her face is instantly guarded, her hand near her sleeve, where her wand tip pokes out. I watch it closely.

“Why do you want to know? So you can make fun of her?” Granger says defensively, protecting her friend.

“No, no I would never do that. I just…just want to know in case it…affects our school work. I won’t be falling behind because of her.” I lie lamely. Granger gasps as she looks at me.

“You care for her!”

“I do not!” She smiles at me sadly. Okay, I didn’t even believe that last statement.

“You care for her, but you can’t have her.” She tells me everything I already know and then she does something that fills my entire being with ice.
