My favorite song in the whole world is called Moon Shadow and it is sung by Cat Stevens. The song is really old, but for some reason I am completely and madly in love with it.
I remember sitting on my father's lap when I was four years old. Moon Shadow was playing on the radio and my father was singing along. It was one of those rare occasions where my father was not drunk. I think one of the reasons I love this song so much is because in that one moment I was truly happy and content.
Even if it was only for duration of that one song; I actually had a real father.
It is one of those songs that created a lot of controversy throughout the years. Some people believed that it had a deeper meaning, while others believed that it was just a bunch of gibberish.
Sometimes life itself is nothing but gibberish. Very little means anything.
The lyrics go something like this;
"Oh, I'm being followed by a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
Leaping and hoppin' on a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my hand,
Oh if I ever lose my hands, oh if......I won't have to work no more.
And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,
Yes if I ever lose my eyes, of if.... I won't have to cry no more.
Oh, I'm being' followed by a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
Leaping and hoppin' on a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
And if I ever lose my legs, I won't moan, and I won't beg,
Yes if I ever lose my legs, oh if....I won't have to walk no more.
And if I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south,
Yes if I ever lose my mouth, Oh if...I won't have to talk...
Oh, I'm being' followed by a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
Leaping and hoppin' on a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
Did it take long to find me? I asked the faithful light.
Did it take long to find me? And are you gonna stay the night?
Oh, I'm being' followed by a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow,
Leaping and hoppin' on a moon shadow, moon shadow, moon shadow..."
AN: I DO NOT OWN THE SONG OR THE LYRICS ABOVE. IT WAS WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY CAT STEVENS (A.K.A YUSUF ISLAM) IN 1971
