Previously in YOJA: The new year was supposed to be a fresh start. You were dealing with your broken heart. Well... you were making strides in learning to deal with your broken heart. You had gone to London, to a New Years Eve party with Matt and Ben, all to try to at least momentarily forget the complications of the last few weeks. Somehow, as it always does where your love life is concerned, everything had gone off the rails.

You've always been close to Matt, developing a tight bond with him early in the process of making Touring Sundays. He was the experienced movie star. He was the support that you needed when the rumor mill started circulating regarding you and Andrew. Matt was there for you, always good for a laugh, always knowing the perfect distraction from whatever was eating at you that day. Sure, there had been occasional bout of harmless flirting, but never anything more. Through the months of filming, throughout post production, and the promotional period that followed for the movie that pulled you from the stage.... And then you met Tom.

You keep your fingers pressed against your still tingling lips and do your best to ignore the few catcalls from bystanders who don't understand the situation. Hopefully they'll move on and allow this insanity to play out unsupervised.

Somehow the night had led to this very moment. A series of choices led you here – first accepting Matt's invitation to spend the holidays with him and his family, then accepting Ben's invitation to the New Years Eve party. You could have said no to either. Both. Overhearing Matt and Ben badmouthing Tom – his supposed friends! – had led to you fleeing their company. Somehow, somehow all of that had led to this.

This!

Matt chasing you down the sidewalk a little after 2 in the morning on the first day of the new year and instead of scolding you as the pair of you walked the final stretch home this had happened. He had pulled you close to give you a once-over to make sure you were alright and...

Whatthehellwhatthehellwhathehell. What the ever-loving-hell.

You swallow and lift your hand from how you've got it pressed against your mouth. You barely lift your fingers an inch off your skin, the action of your fingers peeling away from your lips echoing the sound of what just happened between the pair of you. "What were you thinking? Why - why did you do that?!"

Matt tries to take a step forward and close the distance again, but you take a step back to maintain the space between the pair of you. "You left! Without telling anyone!"

"I wanted to be alone!" You start to curl your fingers towards the palm of your hand, as though that somehow guards against a repeated moment. As tempting as it is to press your knuckles into your lips, you don't. "Why did you kiss me?"

"I was worried! We were wor – nobody knew where you were." He shakes his head and tries again to move towards you. "My heart has been in my throat for the past two hours!"
