Chapter 14

Alanna leant on the door jamb leading to Jewel and Travis’s room the next day, Jewel walked out of the bathroom with a bundle of clothes that were to be washed. “Hey Alanna, do you need me?” She asked as she put the clothes in a basket.

“Yes… with all the excitement I forgot…” Alanna walked into the room and over to Jewel, Susan walked in a few moments later and joined them.

“Forgot what?” Jewel asked a little confused.

“That Artair bit you,” Alanna said as she took Jewel’s bandaged hand.

“It’s nothing bad, didn’t even need stitches,” Jewel replied as she tried to pull her hand back but Alanna’s grip tightened.

“Jewel… have you read any of the books I gave you?” Alanna asked concerned.

“Sadly I have only started a Guide to Were culture.” Jewel replied.

“Show me your hand,” Susan demanded as she held out her left hand.

Jewel gave Susan her hand, obeying a healer was drilled into the culture of this world, it had taken time but Jewel reacted to healer demands instantly. Susan pulled up the long sleeve so that she had complete access.

Susan willed a pair of scissors into her right hand and carefully cut the bandages away.

“I’ve been keeping it clean and using the left over paste you gave Ezra to keep it from itching.” Jewel explained.

“My concern isn’t about how you are treating it.” Alanna replied as the bandages fell away.

Susan’s eyes scanned over the scratches that covered her arm but they weren’t concerning her it was the perfect little dots where Artair’s teeth had sunk into her flesh that concerned Susan. “You are human Jewel… correct?” Susan asked and Jewel nodded.

“Interesting things about Sabres, their scratches won’t turn a person, but their bite can.” Alanna explained and Jewel went a little pale.
