"I'm going to miss you," Jake sighed, outside my house.
"Me too," I said,"but hey, We will talk all the time okay? Oh, and get some cute guys numbers for me." I laughed and so did Jake. He pulled me into a tight hug. I took in his scent. Jake was leaving for Hollywood today and I wouldn't see him for a couple years. Apparently, a talent agent saw him and wanted him to become famous. Then again, how could you turn that down? Jake has been my best friend for years. I just never wanted this moment to end. We would just stand here in each other's arms. Of course being only 10 years old at the time, no one really cared. Slowly, he pulled back and looked me in the eyes.
"I will never forget you." A tear slips down my face. "Don't cry," He says brushing away my tear. "I will be back before you know it." He bends down and kisses me on my forehead.
"Jake, it's time to go," his mom calls by their car.
"See you in a couple years," I say sadly.
"You got it," he responds with a smile. He makes his way to his car and takes one last look at me. More tears fill my eyes and several fall. My parents come out and wave goodbye.
~7 years later~
"Honey," my mom's voice says while opening my door. "Jake is coming home. We are going to meet his parents at the Airport. So hurry up and get dressed."
"I'm not going," I stated firmly. "There is going to be his fans and paparazzi there. I don't want to be put under the spotlight... again. I refuse to go."
My mom took a moment. "Fine, but I won't lie for you about where you are."
"That's all I'm asking for," I said politely. She left my room and I just reached over as turned on my radio.
"Guess what all you Jake Reed fans," The radio announcer asked.
"Nope," I said while changing the station.
"Jake Reed is-"
I changed the station again.
"To all of you who live in the small town where Jake Reed-"
"GIVE ME A BREAK!" I scream while turning off my radio. I get up and walk down stairs.
"Melody, we are leaving now. We should be back in 2 hours," my dad told me from the front door.
"Whatever," I respond while he closes the door.
Jake Reed, long time 'friend' is coming home today, he is also one of the countries biggest celebrities. Yeah, how am I friends with a celebrity? I want to know why am I friends with a celebrity? I go over and start to watch tv for about an hour.
My phone starts going off and I walk into the kitchen and pull out my phone. It's my best friend Alyson.
"Sup," I ask still sleepy.
"Get on Jake's Twitter right now," she screams threw the phone.
"Clam down. Hold on." I walk over to my computer and pull up Jake's Twitter. "What do you want me to look at," I ask putting her on speaker phone.
"Look at his latest Tweet."
"Okay but I don't... He did not," I say out of breath.
"HE DID!!!!! Aren't you so happy?" She screams into the phone.
"I'm going to kill him. Ally, get over here now."
"I'm on my way be there in two minutes."
Alyson lives across the street and was friends with Jake and I. She, however, has fallen under his spell of swooning every girl from the ages 7-107. Except me. I have had my shots and not falling for his trap. Sure enough, two minutes later, Ally was knocking at computer room window. I walk over and open the window enough for her to climb in.
"Did you read the whole thing," she asked sounding out of breath.
"No, I had to stop before I literally before I broke my computer."
"Okay, so let me read it to you.
'Can't wait to go home and see all my lovelies again. It's going to be going to be great seeing @MelodyC and @Ally_Alyson. Miss you guys!' "
"This is terrible," I mumble.
"How? This is awesome! I have gotten so many new followers!"
"The paparazzi, hun, the paparazzi. They will be after us," I say in a duh tone.
"Why would you say that?"
"Because he said our names! And considering I have already been attacked once, it's not something I want to relive."
Ally looked at the ground. Her long brown hair covering her face. She looked like a model. Her cheek-bones outlined and her golden skin, every boy wanted her.
"What are we going to do?"
"Right now, we are going to lock all the doors and windows and pull all the blinds. We have a little less than an hour before everyone gets here. That includes My parents, Jake's parents, Jake, and his paparazzi. If things get to out if hand, we are calling your parents and my uncle. Got it?" Ally nodded her head. "Ready...Set...Go!" We run around my house closing all possible blinds and locking all entrances. When you are motivated, you can cover 3 floors of doors and windows really fast.
I grab my phone and see I have two text. They were both from my mom.
"Hey honey. We are heading home. Be there soon."
"Never mind. We are going to stop to get lunch. Meet us at Luann's Diner if you want anything. Bring Ally if you want! Love ya!"
I threw my phone in my purse and headed to the living room where Aly was watching TV.
"We are going to Luann's Diner. Come help me get ready," I say pulling her up off the couch and to the stairs.
"Ohhhhh! You want me to help you look nice for Jake, right," she ask wiggling her eyebrows.
"Eww! No thank you. I would rather kiss a dog."
"Whatever. Let's go pick out your outfit."
We get up stairs and we go into my en suite. I go into the bathroom to curl my hair and put on my makeup. Since I showered last night, my hair was a mess. After 5 minutes, I am finally done and I walk out to find Ally walking out of my closet holding my black TOM wedges and my blue tight lace dress. I haven't touched that dress in almost a year. It has a sweet heart neck line and ends about thigh length.
"He won't be able to keep his eyes off of you," she says handing me the outfit.
"Yes, because that's what I want, to be eye raped by Jake Reed," I say in a sarcastic tone.
"Just go change!"
I walk into my bathroom and close the door. I take off my sleep shirt and Nike shorts then climb into the dress. It hugs my curves very tightly and I am starting to think I am going to pass out from lack of oxygen, but I push those thoughts aside a walk out to face Ally. She gasp.
"You look-"
"Yeah yeah, Amazing," I interrupt. "Let's go before the crowd outside gets worse." We peak outside and see the there is at least a dozen reporters on my lawn. The possibility of us leaving, is very slim. They will follow us to the diner and Jake will be exposed. That can't happen, as much as I would love to see that happen, I can't. We would be all over the the news, radio, magazines, etc. My thoughts are interrupted when Ally starts dragging me to the garage.
"Which car," she ask with a smile on her face.
"The blue mustang. It has the darkest windows," I state quietly. I grab the keys off the hook and unlock the car. We hop in and I start up the car. "Let the roller coaster of Jake Reed begin."
I open the garage door and we cover our faces with our hair and some baseball hats from the back. "Text my mom. Tell her we are on our way as soon as we ditch the paparazzi." Ally grabs my phone and starts typing.
"Your mom wants to know why are they following you," she responds.
"Tell her to ask Jake what he put on twitter about us."
"That sounds a little mean, but okay. Jake says sorry. He didn't know this would happen."
"Sure he didn't. He is coming back home and he mentioned two girls names. Yeah, no one would take an interest in us. Hold on." I take a sharp turn and go into an alley. The cars pass and go by. I back out of the ally and head towards the diner.
"Mel...how did you do that," Ally asked shocked.
"The Paparazzi aren't that smart," I say in laughter. "I have done that trick three times before. Considering this isn't the first time Jake has said my name and all of a sudden the paparazzi take an interest in me. Mainly because in an interview, Jake claimed that he missed a girl from back home and he felt bad for leaving because he liked her. Whenever my name is mentioned by him, all eyes turn to me to see if I crack or say something that relates to him. So in all ends, they think I am that girl," as I finish we pull up to the diner.
"I didn't know that," Ally says with sympathy.
"Not a lot of people do, not even my parents. That is one of the reasons I can't stand him anymore. He put the spotlight on me, which is something I hate."
"Let's go inside," she finally says after a moment of silence.
"Yeah." We walk in and she Luann in the front.
"There are my two favorite girls," Ms. Luann says walking to us to give us a hug. "Did you make it here okay?"
"Yeah. Mel did this really cool trick and swerved into an ally as the paparazzi passed. She has done it plenty of times before," Ally answered.
"Good! Everyone is in the back. Alyson, go ahead and go back there. I want to show Melody something," Ms. Luann said pointing to the back room. Ally left and Ms. Luann looked at me. "How are you doing?"
"I'm fine. I'm just under the spotlight again, because of a stupid mistake an idiot made, again. Other than that, I'm fine." Luann pulled me into a hug.
"If you ever need me, I'm here for you."
"Thank you." Luann is like my Aunt. She is my moms best friend so she is my aunt by friendship, although she acts like a teenager sometimes.
"Go on and go back there. Jake has been waiting to see you." She smiled.
"I bet," I mumble as I push past the curtain to the back room. A group of people surrounded Jake. If anything, they were his entourage. My parents came to me and asked if I was okay. I nodded my head and looked for Ally. The last time I was attacked by cameras, I passed out from the flashes, people, questions, and the fact that I was only 14 when this happened. Let's just say that one was a mild case. Another time, I was stuck in my house and a reporter was at my window. I screamed and didn't sleep for about a week and a half. Terrified that they would kidnap me or something. One common person that caused all of that, Jake.
Ally ran up to me and had a sad look in her eyes.
"What's wrong," I asked.
"Nothing..." I stare at her intently. "Fine! Jake has a girlfriend!" She covers her mouth like she isn't supposed to tell anyone.
"Awe. Man, I knew you really were looking forward to being with him," I say trying not to laugh at her.
"Not for me. You!"
I stand there shocked. "Ally, you of all people should know how I feel about him. He can have as many girlfriends as he wants. I don't care."
"Yeah, sure. You know he keeps looking at you."
"I know, but he wouldn't dare talk to me, because it would probably ruin his reputation. Besides, his entourage is basically making him stay there." My heart sort of hurt because he kept looking at me. His light blue eyes staring at me. Every girl falls for his eyes. Well, that, his 6 pack, his light brown hair, and his golden tan. "Look, I'm going to say hi to his parents, grab lunch, then I'm heading home. I left my wallet there, and I don't want to be here any longer. Do you want to come with?" She nods her head and we walk over to Mrs. and Mr. Reed.
"Mel! Ally! It's great to see you again," They say hugging us.
"It's great too see you too," I say into their arms. "I'm going to have to be leaving in a minute. I accidentally made another commitment later on. I'm so sorry, but it was great to see all you again!"
"So soon," Mr. Reed ask. I nod my head and put a grim smile on my face. "Okay, but you will just have to spend sometime with Jake and us."
"Will do." I turn around and grab Alyson by the wrist. We walk to the door, and someone calls my name. I shove Ally threw the curtain and run behind her. She ducks down low and I look to see what she was ducking from.
"Are you serious," I half yell while ducking low. Everyone in the diner looks at me. "Oh just keep eating." I rolled my eyes.
"What are we going to do," Ally asked sounding scared.
"C'mon. Head to Luann's office," I reply. We stand up and walk to office casually. The door was open so we walk in hoping Luann is in there.
"Can I help you girls," Luann ask.
"Just getting my food to go," I respond. She hands me my lunch and nods.
"Are they here?" I nod my head and leave with Ally trailing behind me. I can't say I didn't see this coming, but I didn't think this would all happen so soon.
"We walk to the car on the count of three. Put the hats on. If we walk, then they won't suspect a thing. If they notice us, run." We open up the door and give each other a glance and walk to the car. I unlock the car from a distance and we pick up our pace to get to the car. Ally gets in and closes the door loudly. That gets attention from across the parking lot. Crap. Everyone looks at me and I look the direction they are looking. Someone shouts my name and Alyson's name, and I run to the car. I wasn't on track for no reason. Ally is talking to someone on the phone and I have no clue if she is paying attention to me or what is going on. You know, she is a great friend, but when she gets on her phone, she zones out. Most likely, she is talking to Elizabeth. I get to the car and it's locked. She locked me out. I bang on the window and she looks up. Ally maybe smart, but she is also very slow to catching on to things. She unlocks the car and I climb in.
"What the heck," I ask her as I started up the car. "Why did you lock me out?"
"Because I thought it would be funny," she says smiling.
"Whatever. Who were you talking to while I was being ambushed," I asked while pulling out of the diner parking lot.
"No one."
"Liar. Who?"
"My parents. Okay? Let's go to the mall," she suggest changing subjects.
"Sure. We can probably lose them there. I have to stop by my house though to change and grab my wallet. Is that okay?"
"Yeah. No problem. Hey, when you said that we were on a roller coaster of Jake Reed, what did you mean?"
"You will see soon enough," I answer while smiling.
Jake Reed has already managed to swallow us up into his abyss of never ending fame. Let the nightmare of Melody Paige's life continue.
