Melody's P.O.V

I woke up to see the sun shining in my eyes, I looked at my watch and it was 8 in the morning. Wow I slept long, I looked to my left where Rose was sitting up with her back facing me, "Rose". I said trying to get her attention, she turned around and half smiled at me saying "hey." Well it's another day and we are not that far away from my house.so I stood up and grabbed mine and rose's blankets and put them back in my back pack. I walked over to the edge of the roof and looked down; the streets were infested with them! It looked like hundreds of them all down the streets. It doesn't matter for now anyways, I walked back on myself to see the direction we had to go to get to my house. It was to my right; I'd say we would have to travel across maybe 6 houses. I said all of this to Rose and she nodded in agreement, and followed me down to the far end of the building. Luckily the first few buildings weren't that far apart so we were able to jump them easily but it was when we came to the third building along that I realised that it was going to be really hard to jump this. Well I just hoped that this jump was going to be alright because I didn't really fancy not making the jump and breaking all my bones from falling. I didn't really want to calculate how far this jump was exactly because it would only make me more hesitant to jump. I looked at Rose; she looked a bit worried about jumping so far. "Don't worry Rose, it's not that far." I smiled and jogged all the way to about half way on the roof, this was my run up. Well here goes. I took off running as fast as I could; when I got to the edge I pushed myself into a jump with as much force as I could. It felt like it was happening in slow motion; I looked down and saw my feet still moving as if I was running through the air. But also noticed the group of zombies bellow as my stomach hit the edge of the building with a lot of force. I didn't make it! My hands searched frantically for something to hold onto as I started falling backwards. I ended up grabbing handfuls of gravel as I fell backwards to my death. I could hear Rose shouting "Melody! Melody! Hold on!" I ignored her though as my hands felt a small edge on the corner of the roof and I grabbed onto it. I hung there for a second realising it wasn't over, I summoned all of my strength and lifted myself up and swung my leg over the edge. I rolled onto the roof and away from the edge; I lay on my back catching my breath as I remembered that Rose still has to make this jump. I stood back up and looked over at Rose, her face was full of emotion, from worry to fear smiled trying to hide the fact that my heart was pounding in my chest so hard I thought it was going to jump out. "Come on Rose, it's your turn!" I shouted across to her, she looked at me and shook her head. She didn't want to jump. "Don't worry, I will be here to catch you." She half smiled in return to my cheesy statement.

I watched her turn around and walk all the way back to the far edge of the roof, for a second I thought she was going to leave me and my heart dropped. And then she turned around and started running towards me, I was not going to let her fall. She jumped and again it felt like slow motion even though it wasn't me who was jumping, my heart was beating like it was me. I smiled as it looked like she was going to make it and I relaxed a little, only to find myself watching Rose's face go from determination to realisation that she wasn't going to make it! I ran and jumped forward allowing myself to hang partly of the edge of the building, grabbing Rose's hand. Phew .... She was dangling of the edge of the building holding onto nothing but my own hand, I didn't know if I could do this. And rose knew what I was thinking as one single tear fell down her cheek as she said "it's alright Melody, let go." What does she think she is saying! She really thinks I'm just going to let go of her. "No!" I screamed at her as I summoned my strength for the second time and began to pull her up, it was going well until I had to move so she could wing her leg over and that's when my hand slipped and I let go ....

"No!" I screamed again as I lunged forward to catch Rose a second time. I grabbed her hand in such an awkward position that anyone could hear the loud crack that travelled through the air, Rose screamed out in pain as I began to pull on her hand to lift her up. This time I was able to get her up and as she got onto the edge I dragged her up and into my arms, hugging her. I was so happy that she was now safe. I pulled away and noticed that she was holding her hand against her chest, obviously in a lot of pain. I sat her down and went to grab her hand to look at it when she pulled away, not wanting me to touch it. "Rose, I didn't mean to hurt you." I said to her trying to reach for her hand again, but I stopped in my tracks when she started laughing. "You just saved my life Melody!" she screamed. She was my best friend, did she honestly think that I was just going to let her fall! Of course not!

Finally she placed her hand in mine, just by looking at it I could see that she, I mean I had dislocated her thumb. No big deal, though it did hurt a lot. Not telling her what I was about to do, I grabbed her thumb and pushed it back into place with a pop. She screamed again and lay back on the floor clutching her hand to her chest again. "Did you have to Melody!" she shouted, and then continued muttering curses under her breath. She sat back up and I grabbed some material from one of the blankets we had and tied it around her hand for a make do bandage. I looked around and realised that we needed to get over the other side of the street. How were we meant to do that? If we had some rope then that would be easy! I stood up and so did Rose, we walked over to the middle of the roof where I had thrown my backpack earlier, I crouched down and looked inside and grabbed a can of something and opened it. It looked like soup, nothing better than cold soup. I passed the rest of it over to Rose after I drunk some, but just as she was about to grab it I was suddenly moving away from her. Then I realised that I was falling backwards through the roof with Rose coming down a few seconds after me as the rest of the roof caved in. I hit the floor bashing my head hard against the floor and the last thing that I remember was Rose landing on top of me knocking all the breath out of me.

And then it went black.
