She hated this time of year
all lovey dovey cutesy couples
she never felt any real love
he never made a fuss of her
he has never actually told her
he even loves her.
Always a last minute dash
to the Gas Station
coming home with plastic roses
and cheap chocolates.
This year would be different
she would take over
she told him to be home early
clear his schedule
she could see the relief
In his face.
Cheap bastard.
She went all out cooking all his favourites
she dressed up to the nines
little black dress
ruby red lips
raven hair flowing
yes tonight would be different.
She checked the clock
on the wall
It read 7:30
he should be home soon.
She heard the door slam
the usual grunt
no hello, or a how are you
She greeted him like a hostess
all smiles and pleasentries
they sat down to dinner
he said not one word to her
she chatted about her day
he just grunted at the right places.
It was this silence she hated
white noise she called it
it made her brain hurt
tears sprang to her eyes.
She cleared away the plates
in silence
that silence that haunts her very soul
she looked at him with contempt
in her eyes.
She walked over to him seductively
one hand behind her back
she caught the smile on his lips
'how about a kiss babe' he said
'yeah why not...it is Valentine's day'
as she leaned in to take his mouth
with hers..
A loud scream pierced the room
she watched him as his face crumpled
in front of her
his eyes were white with shock
she whispered in his ear as he
took his last breathe
'Happy Valentine's Day, baby'
His body fell to the floor
she took the knife out of his
back and cleaned it
with the hem of her dress
she stepped over his lifeless body
whistling a happy tune.
