Chapter 2: He Touched My Bow

It's still 7:02 in the morning. I'm always an early bird when it comes to archery. From 10 am to 5 in the afternoon the field will turn into a mishmash of young and old. As long as the population of archers will be lesser than 10, I can tolerate "staying", but if it exceeds 10, it's my time to go.

Clarification, I'm not claustrophobic, I'm just kind of an anti-social.

When I went out of the car, I saw Mr. Hanssen carrying now my sports bag. While walking towards the field, I saw five silhouettes in my favorite spot. (Four boys and a girl whom I now recognized as I walk towards them)

The girl is Jaime Eugenie Windsor. Oh, her long silky hair's gone. I can see a pixie cut short black hair. The new hairstyle suits her. I don't want to meet her golden eyes yet.

Unconsciously, I paced into a different direction, avoiding them I guess. I'm not into crowds today. I want to be alone.

I'm lucky because fortunately there's this bench situated within a considerable distance from them. I'm wearing a gray sport visor though. Jamie won't recognize me from afar.

I wonder when will they vanish. I mean "go". I missed my bow so much! It's been 2 years since I last touched it. Am I still the lil girl that is a prodigy in archery?

"Mr. Hanssen, my bag please?"- I can see his uneasiness. Maybe he's ill.

He gave me my bag.

"uhm Mr. Hanssen, I don't like being watch by my family and relatives while doing archery. You can wait for me in the car, Mr. Please? - I gave him a beseeching facial expression like that of a tiny little kitten.

"As you wish, Miss Kate."-He's really not in condition today; I can sense it because he didn't insist of staying like he always used to do.

I look at him while he walks through the car. He's old now. He's kinda staggering. Limping as he walks. Our teacher Miss Canterbury told us that when a person grows older, he or she will be more prone to illnesses. Poor Mr. Hanssen, sign of aging.

I stand up and walk towards a cozy Refreshment's area inside the archery field.

"Good day Miss Hughes!"- an attendant

Oh what's with the world? People I don't even know by face know who I am. But wait, this archery field is owned by my mom's bestfriend, the mother of Jaime. Actually her mom, Madam Emma Eugenie Windsor, is the head of the International Field Archery Association (IFAA).

"No need for the honorific. Omit the 'miss'. I'll have a Chocolate-Almond Torte, and water." There's a need to cut the sugar intake of Mr. Hanssen. Chocolate-Almond Torte has low calorie content and water is best for him. I assume, they're not using splenda sugar in here.

"It'll be quick ma'am."- attendant

I heard before that Mr. Hanssen has diabetes mellitus. None of my teachers mentioned about "diabetes", I'm still in prep school but because I always read health books on my spare time, I know something about diabetes. No need to elaborate.

"Here ma'am"- attendant

The aroma is appetizing but this is for Mr. Hanssen.

I gave her my platinum credit card.

"O_O"-attendant

Did I just saw her jaw drop?
