Daughter Of Smoke And Bone - Laini Taylor (2011)

Rating: 4.5/5

Genre: Fantasy

All around the world handprints are appearing on doors.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is amazing! I really enjoyed reading this book and I'm not really sure why. It was probably because of how Taylor has twisted what we know about angels and demons and turned it all around. The angels are evil.

This book is full of wondrous but dangerous creatures. The 'demons' are the good guys and the beautiful, charismatic angels want to destroy them and nothing can stop them, except maybe Karou, the protagonist of the story is different, she will change the world.

I loved this book. At the beginning it is a bit hard to memorise and capture the look of some of the characters but over time you get the hang of it. The writing is absolutely beautiful. Karou is a charismatic and idealistic girl, by far one of the most interesting characters I have ever had the privilege to read about.

There were very few things that I didn't like about Daughter of Smoke and Bone one of those things was that I struggled to picture what some of the characters looked like as there was so much to their appearance: horns, tails, different types of skin/fur/scales etc... This book also has a hell of a lot of flashbacks, I found this particularly confusing and had to go back and read some parts to fully understand what was happening and what had happened in the flashbacks.

This story was beautiful, tragic, captivating and action packed with a little room for romantics. Daughter of smoke and bone will keep you entranced with every step of the way.

I would definitely read this book again and will continue to read the rest of the trilogy!
