A Game of Thrones – George R. R. Martin
Rating: 5/5
Genre: Adult-fiction, fiction, fantasy, death

"Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun."

When I first heard about this book I really didn't want to read it. But, my friend eventually tore me down and I bought it. It then proceeded to sit on my shelf for a year and gather dust. Until one fateful day when I decided to do yet another reading challenge and pick it up. I got about 80 pages in and stopped. 2 months later I had to go on a road trip and needed a big book, I picked it up again (his was probably one of the best decisions in my life). I finished A Game of Thrones by the end of the week.

"There is only one god and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: "Not today."

HOLY CRAP!!
Okay, so I'm going to kick off by telling you that yes, this book was a bit overwhelming at times, there is a lot going on. Throughout this book you go through quite a few different point of views (povs), most of which will still read from in the next book, A Clash of Kings. Honestly I can't really tell you much about the plot because there is too much to tell and I would spoil everything.

"Winter is coming."

If you don't feel like reading the books, I completely understand, its MASSIVE. But you may want to give the tv show a go (if you're of age, of course), I personally am a big fan of the show and the books, I will read one book and then watch the season that goes with it (eg. 1st book= 1st season).

"When you play a game of thrones you win or you die."

Favourite characters:
Ayra Stark- This chick knows what she's doing, she may be young but she's not stupid. Ayra wants to learn how to fight and throughout the book she does start to learn until her training ends. I feel like she's going to be a really badass character later on.
Hodor- Hodor, Hodor Hodor Hodor Hodor. Hodor Hodor Hodor Hodor, Hodor  Hodor Hodor. Hodor Hodor Hodor. (Do you see what I did there? (if you read the book you'll get it)).
Jon Snow- Okay, Jon Snow is beautiful. He is Ned Snow's bastad and he knows his place. Honestly, I couldn't wait to read Jon's chapters, I'm pretty sure I'm half in love with him.
Ghost- Ghost, is also beautiful. As soon aas I finished AGOT I couldn't stop talking about him.
Tyrion Lannister- Funny and wise. This guy is amazing, honestly, I loved his chapters so much. He's not afraid to mock or tease and it's hilarious.

Was it overwhelming at times? Yes. Did I love it? Yes. Am I in love with Jon Snow? Hell yes. Am I going to finish this series? Definitely.

Also, I really need a direwolf, I'd probably die but it'd be worth it.

WARNING: This book contains: talk of sex, talk of rape, violence, swearing and a crap load of death
