Title: Noragami

Owner: Adachitoka

Genre: Supernatural, comedy, action, romance

Rating: 7/10

Summary:

Hiyori Iki lived a normal middle school life, preparing to transition to high school with her friends. However, her life was changed before that could happen.

After she is hit by a bus while saving a mysterious boy, Hiyori realizes she will never live a normal life. Her soul slips from her body and she watches in horror as her body is taken to the hospital, along with her crying friends.

Yato, the young man she saved, later comes to check on her and claims to be a god. Not only that, but he tells her that her soul will continue slipping from her body unless she gets help from none other than a god. If her soul continues to wander, this could cause her to become bait to inhumane monsters bred from human sins, Phantoms, which are the same monsters that Yato is meant to slay with his Regalia; a weapon that is gifted and serves a god.

But after having many failed attempts to be recognized as a real god, Yato lacks a Regalia and any means to protect Hiyori. Once he makes an agreement with her, Yato agrees to help her soul stay bonded to her body and protect her from Phantoms.

Unfortunately, Yato has done many dark things in the past and is a shady person--causing him to make more enemies than he can possibly protect Hiyori from.

Opinion:

Ladies and gentlemen, please pay attention and listen carefully.

Please scroll back to the top of this page. After reading the information, please direct your attention to the rating I have given this anime. That's right, a whopping 7/10 was awarded to this amazing, beautiful, tear-inducing, and fangirl-worthy show.

Only two animes have been awarded this rating so far.

I can't explain it, I am completely incapable of it, but this anime drew me in after three minutes of the first episode. Whatever it was, I love Noragami with all of my heart. I would give this series a 10/10 if I could, but nothing is ever perfect.

If you don't believe me when I say that, let me put it this way.

Only two animes have ever interested me enough to get me to read the manga. Those two are as follows:

Fairy Tail, and Attack on Titan.

So if you actually get me to read a manga for a show I watched, it must be one damn good show. This show was one of those that pulled me in, like Attack on Titan or Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.

One thing I would like to point out is...actually, two things are worth pointing out:

The first is that so many manga authors are getting into the "supernatural monsters spawned from human hatred that need to be slayed by really hot otherwordly beings" theme lately. I mean, take these examples: Bleach, Blue Exorcist, and Beyond the Boundary to name a few.

...Also, they all start with the letter "b." I just noticed that. Well, that's proof I'm, smrt! S-M-R-T, SMRT!

(Whoever got that quote, thank you very much.)

So anyways, the theme is a little overused. Supernatural boy-meets-girl shit going on here as of late. It is a nice theme that has always interested me, but at the same time you almost constantly expect what can happen. I mean, they slowly fall in love, they're torn apart at some point, and eventully we just make it our OTP and fangirl to the max. Usually, the "ethereal being" for lack of better word is super well known and dreamy, and borders on high school-romance-gushy.

BUT NOT FOR THIS!

No, there were so many things I honestly did not expect; which is why I fell in love with this series! The boy wasn't meant to meet girl, hell, the girl wasn't meant to even SEE the boy! Then instead of the damsel in distress business, Hiyori shoves Yato out of the way and is hit by a bus in his place. Another point to dwell on is the fact that these "ethereal beings" are always portrayed as super popular and cliche.

Yato was greedy, lazy, downright obnoxious, poor, and wears a jumpsuit.

Perfect.

This is one of the many reasons why I love Noragami: they used an old idea and made it new again.

My second very important point is this, but out of kindness...

*SPOILER ALERT*

Now that that is out of the way, let me continue. You know the old "I forgot you and now we have to regain my memories to spark the romance again" plot line? Well, this is another horrible thing that became fantastic.

So some random asshole named Rabo decides to be just that--an asshole--and steals all of Hiyori's memories of only Yato, no one else. Now, this was not in the manga, so the directors did a great job. There's a huge battle, yada yada, I'm not going to spoil and completely ruin it for you.

But, we saw another side of Yato and somehow my insides turned to mush as I screamed and cried, holding pieces of what used to be my heart. The couple has not yet gotten together, but Adachitoka is just taunting their romance on a string above our heads.

I tip my hat (even though I'm not wearing one) to the creators for making this a wonderful series, and making every second worth it.

Wait! I almost ended the chapter (I know, I'm sorry too), and I think I know why I love Noragami!

So a few weeks ago, at the time I am writing this, began reading Shakespeare's tragedie of Romeo & Juliet. Before this, I had never read a Shakespearian play before. I think this whole, "love is in the air and drowning my lungs" thing with R&J is really affecting me. I have just felt so compelled to watch romance and other things lately because of this classic.

Okay, okay, I'll end it with warnings.

There is a small amount of blood, but it's just battle injuries that people say aren't that big. Whoever thought of the "'Tis but a scratch," guy from Monty Python is amazing. Carrying on, there is slight language, some serious stuff later but not super bad when overviewed. Finally, there is some slight sexuality. There are some scenes with locker rooms and bathing women, etc, but there is also Yukine being a curious pervert and trying to feel up Hiyori while she sleeps at one point.

Please, I am begging you, watch this series.

Now, excuse me while I continue the manga and flip my coffee table after Hiyori and Yato almost kiss.

GODDAMMIT!

Vote if you didn't know that the Japanese voice actors who play the male leads of Noragami, Yato and Yukine, voice Eren Yaeger and Levi in Attack on Titan!
