Chapter 14

Darkness continues to consume the house, my eyes fixating around the room to try and find any possible source of light. Its growl surrounds the room, sounding like it’s coming from each four corners of the wall. I had no idea where it could be.

“Abigail, where are you?” I shout. Panicking frantically as the growl gets louder.

“Daddy I’m scared,” She says to me in a very silent and timid voice. “I think he’s behind me daddy. I can hear him!”

Its demonic-like voice laughs from the darkness.  “You thought you had got ridden of me?” it asks me, the voice circling around me like it was some sort of predator. And I was its hopeless prey waiting to be attacked.

“What do you want from us?”

Its cold breath touches against the hairs on the back of my neck, making them stand up in fright. “What would I want from a pathetic person like you?” it laughs. “There is nothing that I want from someone like you. You’re worthless to me.” It spits.

“Then why won’t you leave us alone?” I ask.

“But why should I leave you alone? You know you deserve to suffer for everything that you have done in your life. It’s because of you that your wife is dead, and she blames you, and so does Michelle and Julie. And soon enough, your own brother will be dead once I take full control. How can you live with yourself? You don’t deserve to live on this world. There is only one place that you deserve to go, and he’s waiting for you. And he can’t wait meet you.” It’s voice laughing again.

“Abigail, I want you to leave the room right now!” I shout towards her. “Let my daughter leave. It’s not her that you want. She hasn’t done anything wrong.”

“Daddy, I won’t leave you!” she says hesitantly.

The door slams with force, followed by a scream from Abigail.

“Show yourself!” I shout angrily. “Show yourself you fucking coward!”

Its shadowy figure appears on the other side of the kitchen room, standing there, but not moving. It was hard to be able to see, but the light coming from one of the gardens was enough to be able to see the outline of its body.

After a few brief seconds of tension as the figure stands their motionless, its voice lets out a huge roar which shatters all the windows around the house as the shards of glass fall onto the floor. The figure then moves from the kitchen into a quick flash, and out of my view. Where had it gone?

The lights in the house turn back on, as I look to see Abigail who is huddled in the corner of the kitchen with blood dripping down her face from the shards of glass. Jamie was no-where in sight. But right now I had no care as to where Jamie or the demon was. The only thing that I cared about was Abigail.

“Abigail, are you okay?” I say as I run over to her worried, grabbing onto her face and looking at damage that had been done. There was no serious damage, only small pieces of glass that had caused her skin to cut open.

“You’re okay Abigail,” I say re-assuring her. “Don’t worry, you’re okay.” I then hug her tightly. “Abigail, we need to get out of here, okay? We can’t stay here. Are you listening to me Abigail?”

Abigail nods to me as I grab onto her hand and pick her up. We rush out of the kitchen quickly and down the hallway towards the front door, looking out into the neighbourhood and hearing a loud wave of dogs that are barking as if they were communicating with each other. The sound was almost deafening. And the neighbours were beginning to look out into the street to see what was going on.

“Shut the fuck up!” a man shouts angrily from their window.

“What the hell is all this noise?” another voice shouts from his window.

I rush towards the car and open the passenger side of the door, chucking in Abigail quickly before running to the driver’s side and locking myself in.

“Where are we going to go daddy?” Abigail asks me.

“I don’t know Abigail; I don’t know where we’re going to go.” I say to her as I check all of my pockets in panic, realising I had left the car-keys inside the house.

I look towards her. “Abigail, I want you to stay in this car and lock it. Don’t open it to anyone. I’ll be straight back, okay? I promise. “

She nods as I wipe a tear that comes down from her eye. I kiss her forehead.

Hesitantly, I then exit the car and shut it, hearing the sound of the car lock from the inside. I approach the house and walk through the door that’s already opened, trying to remember where I had last put the car-keys. I could hardly think straight. Where did I put the keys? I keep asking myself, before realising that I left the keys upstairs in the room.

I walk up the stairs, unbeknown to me what could be up there.  My subconscious was beginning to make me feel the worst. Don’t go up there! It was shouting back at me. I come to the top of the stairs and walk down the hallway and approach my room, turning the light on. Jamie was still no-where to be seen.

I rush over towards the side-table and open the drawer and grab my wallet, car-keys and mobile phone. The lights begins to flicker in the room, and a cold gust of wind comes from inside even though the window was shut. The floorboards begin to creak from outside the room.

“Who’s there?” I ask.

There is no response.

I walk towards the door but before I can leave the room, the door shuts with force, locking me in. The whole room begins to shake vigorously, causing the drawers, mirrors and the television to go flying around the place as I push myself to the floor to avoid them.

I crawl on my stomach towards the window, the objects still flying around the room as the floor continued to shake. I stand up and try to lift up the window but it won’t move. I grab the television that is on the floor and chuck it through the window, watching the glass shatter and the sound of the television crashing onto the floor below.

I leave through the window of the room and jump down onto the floor below, the height enough to cause me to hurt my ankle as I hit the floor. I scream in agony.

I crawl desperately towards the car, trying as hard as I could to get to Abigail, but it felt so far.

“Let me in Abigail!” I shout as I approach the car.

The door unlocks and I open the door, crawling up onto the chair and letting myself in, as Abigail locks the door.

“Are you okay daddy?”

“Don’t worry Abigail, I’m fine,” I say, placing the keys into the ignition and turning it on. “Let’s just get out of here.”

We drive away quickly from the house and away from the neighbourhood, all eyes watching as we leave. I didn’t care to look back, and nor did I want to. I knew I couldn’t keep running, because there was no point running anymore. There was only one place left that we could go. Somewhere that would believe what was happening to us. I had no other choice now.
