It was dark outside the window by the time all four of us realized that we shot enough virtual zombies to last us a life time. I got up the couch just as Aaron did and stretched my arms out, and shook of the uncomfortable feeling that you get after sitting in one position for a long period of time.

"Hey, where are you guys going?" Adam asked, looking at us -more like just at me- with a look of pure distrust.

"Kat's going to show me the carnival at the pier they're opening tonight." Aaron answered, stretching too.

We slipped on our shoes and headed for the front door, but before Aaron even reached out for the door handle, Adam got up and decided that he too would like to see this carnival.

Danny had no choice but to stick with us too.

The night air was sort of chilly by the time we got to the pier. There were light everywhere. Fairy lights decorating booths that sold stuffed toys, candy floss, popcorn, caramel apples, and all the other goodies. A fortune telling booth was set up as a tent with a materiel that seemed glitter under the moon light. Men on high sticks blew out fire out of their mouths and clowns danced around juggling and squirting water at squealing children.

And in the middle of it all was a great big Ferris wheel that glowed with florescent lights, the sound of the engine humming created a comfortable background sound along with the classic circus music from the speakers and the crashing of the waves against the shore.

The guys around me seemed too amazed and shocked by the appearance of the carnival to say anything but follow me to the ticket stand. We paid for our tickets and I led them to one of the booths to get snacks.

"We're off to the kissing booth," said Adam, winking and grabbing Danny's hand.

Aaron frowned and I just rolled my eyes."There is no kissing booth."

We got our popcorn and candy floss and headed towards the games booth. I watched as Aaron tried, and failed miserably, to toss hoops around the neck of the colorful bottles. The man in charge of the booth was laughing by the time I decided that I would like to have a go.

Aaron scoffed."If I couldn't do it, neither will you."

I raised an eyebrow."Remember who recommended this place in the first place?"

I gestured for the old man to hand me the hoops and I paid for my go. I shot my first hoop and missed, earning a smug look from Aaron which I swiftly ignored. The next time I shot, I got the hoop right where I wanted it to go. The old man laughed again while Aaron kept denying my win as 'good luck'. the man let me pick the stuffed toy that I wanted and I pointed at a stuffed cat.

I got my prize and we left the booth, me laughing at Aaron as he tried to convince me that he could win if we went back there and he had his turn again.

"No way, you'll lose. I'm sure of it."

He just huffed, and muttered something under his breath I couldn't hear. So I stopped walking and pushed the stuffed cat in his arms so he had no choice but to hold it or let it drop on the muddy ground.

"Here, now you can tell everyone that you won."

"Kat," he whined, "I don't want your stuffed prize. And anyway, when a guy wins a toy he always gives it to the girl he's with."

"Yeah, but you're no gentleman so nobody will really notice anything."

He opened his mouth to protest but I added, "Plus, now you can always remember that I like to be called Kat and not by any other name."

He chuckled lightly and tucked the toy under his arm with a smile. "Thanks Kat."

I smiled and we continued on walking and stopping at other random booths in our way.
