Chapter 13

Sam's Pov,

I sat in the Rhino, watching the water. A man in his late 40's maybe early 50's approached Maxi standing by the shore. I watched in the corner of eyes as Maxi's face dropped into an unreadable expression. He nodded his head before turning around. His eyes locked with mine and my heart began to pound against my chest.

"What's wrong?" I asked, my eyes glued to his

"A body has been spotted off the rocks" Maxi answered

I swallowed "Okay…" I replied trying to keep it together.

Come on Sam. This is part of your job.

"Are you alright to…"

"Mhm, yeah" I answered knowing what he was going to ask.

Maxi hesitated "I don't think Whip would want you to-"

"Why are you worried about what Whippet thinks?" I interrupted, tilting my head

"Uhh" He pondered

I decided to save him from the misery and embarrassment of answering that question.

"Come on" I said standing up "Let's get the ski in the water and do what we have to do"

Maxi only nodded his head and we both endeavoured to get the jet ski in the water.

I held tightly onto Maxi's torso as the jet ski rose and fell amongst the waves.

We hadn't been on the water for more than 7 minutes when the body came into view. Pale, floating face down bobbing up and down with the waves.

My grip on Maxi tightened and I felt my hands starting to shake. I looked away from the body as we slowed up.

"You okay?" Maxi asked looking over his shoulder

I looked up and nodded.

"Okay, we uh.." he swallowed looking back at the body "We need to get the body on the mat"

I nodded my head and slowly turned my head to face the body. I sucked in my breath at the sight of the lifeless corpse. The body was blue  from head to toe, facing down into the water. I felt tears welling up in my eyes and I felt as though I could look at it no longer so I turned away, trying to keep it together.

"Sam?"  Maxi's voice spoke softly

I rose my head to look at him and waited for him to continue
