"It looks cute on you!!" My mom tried to cheer me up as she finished trimming the last piece of my hair. My face was buried in my knees because I refused to look at it.
I can't believe Chandler had done that! His hair would be back to normal in A FUCKING DAY!! Mine would take years to get it back to the length it used to be! I'm honestly done with him. I'm done playing his games and getting him to take me back. I'm better then that and I don't need him. He always will win, no matter what I do.
"Can you just look at it for me, Pleeeaaaseee!" Mom tried and slowly I picked up my head.
At first I intended to just take a glimpse of the terribleness of my new hair cut, but I couldn't help but stare. It was.. cute. I thought that my hair was going to need a huge length off, but it sat perfectly on my shoulders in an angle and layers. It almost looked professional and I was impressed and pleased of my moms work.
"You like it?" She asked hopefully, "I think it suits you well."
I nodded, "It's way better, thanks."
"See I am a good mom!" She boosted as she walked away. I sort of felt bad for her. Other mothers look down on her and disagree with the way she raises my brothers and I. I think they're just jealous that she doesn't sit on the couch all day knitting and reading cook books.
I messed with my hair and stared at the girl who was looking back at me in the mirror. The girl looked sad and broken. One that you can tell has been through way too many battles with society and herself. The dark circles under her eyes show the sleepless nights that she stayed up so late to pray that everything would be better the next day. This girl was me, the new Alina.
Chrissy now stays with Jax every night because the two couldn't be apart any longer and honestly I was sick of hearing Chrissy's phone call giggles every night. Now I can have some peace and quiet-
"Alina Maria Wood, Get down here right now!!" My dads voice called from down stairs. Great, what did I do now!? I sighed, leaping off my bed and going downstairs. I cringed when I saw my dads angry face. I've never made my dad angry.. ever, so I must be in for something good.
"Sit." Mom instructed and I did so, sitting farthest away from the both of them.
"Will you care to explain why your failing ALL your classes in school?!"
This took me by surprise. School hasn't even been a priority for me anymore and i know that my grades are slacking, but failing?! And even worse, all my classes..?
"I-I don't know..," I bit my lip nervously.
"Well we know you've been having a hard time with everything going on but if your grades don't go up, we're going to have to home school you." Dad told me and my mouth dropped. I couldn't believe them!
"No!"
"Then pick it up Alina." My mom says sternly. Oh now she wants to be a parent.. Instantly I regretted what I just thought.
"I will, I promise." I got up and kissed them both goodnight. Maybe it might be good for me to be home schooled... but then again maybe not.
I sat on my bed to think. There's a beta club that I used to be in at my school. The beta club was full of smart kids who stay up all day and night studying, doing assignments, homework, etc.. I always wondered how they do it. What was their secret..? And then I found out. I was on a study date with a few of my beta friends and I kept noticing that they all kept popping and passing these long white pills around. When I asked what it was, they told me that it was to help them stay awake longer so they can get more work done. And then I asked if I could have one, and they said no because I was "the alphas daughter". Later on did I figure out that it was a drug... but it was a helpful drug right? And only if you over used it, then it would be bad for you. At least, that's what I think.
I grabbed my phone and texted an old friend, Macy, from beta. Even though I dropped out the club a long time ago, I was still friends with some of the people.
me: hey Macy, I know we haven't spoken in a while but I need to ask a question..
Macy: Hey Alina! And ask away.
me: okay um.. do you still take those pills?
Macy: My focus pills? Yeah, why?
I debated what to say next. Did I want to do this?
me: I'd like to buy some if that's okay
Macy: Really? Tomorrow I could give you 10 for $10
me: Yeah that sounds great!
After everything was settled, I felt an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was doing the right thing. This was the new Alina, I kept telling myself as I drifted off to sleep.
My mom had dropped me off at school because Chrissy caught the flu and can't make it to school. I was a little relieved that she did because I don't know what she will say about what Chandler did to my hair. I met up with Macy who casually leaned against some lockers. She had her hand slightly behind her back and at the sight of me, she looked relieved as I came toward her.
"You were making me anxious, I thought you'd never show up!"
"Sorry.." I apologize and she quickly slips the pills from her back, to my hand. My fingers curl around them and I tuck them away in my Jean pocket. From my other pocket, I pull out the ten dollar bill and put it in her hand. I look around the halls to see if anyone noticed what was going on, but my peers were oblivious.
"If you need more, you know where to find me!" Macy says and we both go our separate ways.
Except my way was caught off short because I ran into something.. or somebody. I looked up to see Chandler. His eyes widened as he took in my new hair. I huffed and tried stepping around him, but he stood in front of me again.
"Can you leave me alone!" I shrieked and Chandler inhaled deeply.
"Alina, I need to talk to you." He says and I chuckle.
"How do I know its not another trick? You trying to cut off my legs now?!" My voice raised and I was reminded that we were not alone from the low murmurs and stares from people in the hall.
"Please, just follow me." He whispered and started walking to the court yard. I was having a fight with myself if I should go or not. This isn't what the new Alina would do, I reminded myself as I followed him outside.
"It wasn't me that cut your hair, I mean well, I wasn't myself." He tells me. I couldn't help but laugh.
"It was your twin brother, Right?" I say sarcastically.
"God damit Alina, just listen to me!" Chandler looks almost.. sad. I will not play his games and I don't feel bad for him. I won't. I crossed my arms and nodded.
"Go on.."
"I rejected you because..." He looked struggled to get it out.
My heart was racing. This was the moment I've always been waiting for. Why was he telling me now? To many things raced through my mind and I tried to just focus on what he was going to say.
"I do drugs and deal, I get into fights and I gamble. I don't deserve you Alina because your too good for me."
At that moment, I could feel the pills press guiltily into my thigh...
