Survival Skill 14: Thou must have fun

What to do? What to do? What the hell should I freakin’ do?!

I’d been walking around in this mansion for at least forty minutes without a clue of what I’m supposed to be doing. So far, I’d seen two cat fights, experience getting hit on by at least five drunks, dragged into the dance floor at least seven times by people I’d only since once or twice at school and almost got puked on by a brokenhearted girl.

Aren’t parties’ fun?

I’d thought of ditching Rex Parker for the rest of the party countless of times but I just can’t seem to do it. Maybe it’s because my house was way too far to walk.

Irritated, I slumped on the couch opposite to a couple who were busy eating each other. God, I wish I was home.

Just then I heard a familiar giggle. My eyes snapped to the direction of the dance floor where I saw a familiar brunette in a red jersey dress and a brown jacket, swaying to the beat with a red cup in her hand.

It was Joey.

I quickly got up from my seat and stomped to Joey’s side grabbing her arm.

“What the---“she slurred then glanced at me. I saw her lips twitch to a smirk as she recognized me. “Well, someone’s a hot mama tonight.”

“What are you doing here?” I asked, letting her go and crossing my arms over my chest.

She shrugged as she took another drink. “Partying,”

Fortunately, she was not that drunk yet. Trust me. I’d seen worse versions of her drunken state. “Aren’t you supposed to be in a dress fitting?”

“I’ve already attended the first one. Why should I keep attending them?” she shrugged as she took a sip from her cup.

I smiled sarcastically. “I don’t know, maybe, because it’s how weddings’ work.”

“You know, you’re here to have fun, not scold me for not attending a dress fitting for the wedding of my annoying sister and the guy that broke my heart two years ago.” she muttered in a bitter tone.

I gave out a sigh as I let my arms fall to my sides. I knew this whole thing still frustrated her. “I’m sorry. I just don’t want you to get in more trouble with Jen.”

It was her turn to heave a sigh. “I promise I’ll attend the other fittings.” she said apologetically. “I just didn’t want to miss this party.”

My brows furrowed in curiosity. “Why? What so great about this party?”

She looked at me as if I lost my mind. “Uh. Hello! We are now partying in a mansion.”

I looked around. The mansion had a pristine look to it. The walls were maroon and the ceiling was white. It had about three floors and a dozen bedrooms. I’m pretty sure there’s an infinity pool and grill station at the backyard. Yeah, it was bigger and better. But, really, what was the big deal about that?

“So?” I questioned.

“George, we are in one of the hottest and best parties of the school year---You know what! Scratch that, this may be one of the most epic parties we'll ever attend in our whole entire life.” she stated firmly.

“Joey, you know, I’m not much---“

“Not much of a party person, yadda, yadda, yadda,” she cut off, rolling her eyes. “You’ve said that for the hundredth time already.”
