A lovely friend on wattpad asked me to tackle a topic that is not sexual, but might offer help. Dyslexia.

A basic description of what dyslexia is: characterized by difficulty with learning to read fluently and with accurate comprehension despite normal intelligence. What that means is that a person who has dyslexia is NOT stupid, not in anyway. Their brain translates the written word incorrectly. By mixing letters up (those of you whom have read Queen of Spades will remember my own difficulty with spelling THE correctly, it was often transposed into hte), by positioning letters in the wrong form (putting a p wrong so that it looks like a b is common), or by dropping letters out of words entirely.

Dyslexia can also present itself as a person who is perfectly capable of reading still having difficulty translating the word on the page into understandable meaning in the brain. It would be like looking at the word neighbor and knowing it's a real word, but your brain refuses to give you the definition you already know.

I personally have something defined as discalcula, or numerical dyslexia. I can read and write words just fine (other than the, I conceed that failure) however when given the task of writing numbers down, my brain will mix numbers up or insert the wrong ones and I will not recognize it. Verbally and mentally I am more than capable of keeping the numbers straight, but the act of writing them down often leads me to use the wrong digits.

The thing to remember is that a person with any form of dyslexia is not stupid. It is a type of learning difficulty, and they may need a different form of teaching to properly handle their dyslexia, but that does not at all mean they cannot figure it out.

If it offers comfort, many celebrities live more than successful lives with dyslexia. Actors like Orlando Bloom, Kiera Knightly, and the ever famous Leonardo da Vinci. If one of the most brilliant artists and inventors of the known world can make his mark on history, you know that dyslexia will not be enough to stop you.

There is a system out there that will work for you. It might not be easy to find, but you will succeed. Keep your chin up.
