peanut butter sandwich

as told by everest

We engaged in a conversation of books after our "argument" finally ended about five minutes later. I decided to let you win because I wanted you to be happy due to the fact that you were the prettiest when you were happy and you were always sweeter and funnier and lighter.

"Have you read The Perks of Being a Wallflower?" I asked, leaning my head back against the shelf.

"No," you said. "I watched the movie, and its been so popular that I haven't gotten to read it. The libraries and bookstores are always out of stock."

I raised my eyebrows. "You can borrow my copy."

"I'd love that," you answered, taking a bite of a peanut butter sandwich.

"It's very easy to relate to, I think," I said. "It would be even easier for you, since Charlie is a freshman in the story."

You shined a peanut buttery smile. "That's good. Do you consider yourself a wallflower, Everest?"

I tapped my finger on my thigh. "I suppose so. I see things and I think things and I understand them."

You nodded. "But you don't feel that you really... fit in."

"Yes."

You took another bite of your sandwich. "I can say that I am one, too."
