Chapter 7

‘Eeek!’ I squealed in excitement, Alex grabbed my shoulder and we both jumped up and down. Not Alex’s thing! She gets excited, of course. Overly excited, sometimes. But she doesn’t squeal and jump around she shuffled on the spot while I did a collection of different moved such as; Jazz hands, Jazz squares, hip swivels et cetera. Then we did our signature move. The Egyptian Chicken, as I called it. I turned to her.

‘I can’t wait! I’m so happy. Ten hours to the dance!’ she smiled ‘So who are you going with? I thought you were going with the group but you told me last night you were going with a date and then you wouldn't tell me and... and... you already know all this... so just tell me who? Who? Who?’ I said, rambling on. She smiled and rolled her eyes.

‘You’ll see in ten hours!’ she smiled. I rolled my eyes. She walked away down the hall to her class.

'Are you serous?!' I shouted after her. I turned and walked in the other direction. I walked to my first class. I sat in my seat staring past the teacher who was droning on in a boring monotone voice. I drew a picture on my book in boredom, willing the bell to ring. When it did, finally, I ran out of the class as quickly as I could.

The whole day was so boring. I slumped into the cold, uncomfortable chair in the school cafeteria beside Alex and my other friends. I picked at my salad sandwich with a scowl. I knew it was stinking up my lunch box, but i just shoved it out of my face, instead I grabbed some Hershy's Kisses, savouring the flavour. I was on diet... oh well, every girl said that. After I was finished, all my means of joy to distract me from my impatience, so again, I was like a child counting down to Christmas, it just stretches longer and longer. I was snapped out of my daze when Alex smiled at me

‘I’m so excited!’ Rose squealed. ‘my dress is like, so pretty! It’s emerald green. Too bad I don’t have a date but I’m glad we’re going in a group’ she had a tendency to drone on about things we already knew all the details to. Sometimes I'd tell her to shut up, but she'd just glare at me and continue on her lecture. Alex and I rolled our eyes and started our own conversation.

‘Why wont you tell me who you’re going with?’ I whined and stamped my foot, she smiled. It wasn't funny...

‘Because, you’ll laugh. Anyway, can I go to your house this evening to get ready for the dance with you?’ she said, changing the subject

‘Oh my God. How fun would that be? Duh, of course but Josh and Brandon will be there too.’ I could barely talk about Brandon anymore - not without getting angry or annoyed or upset, the girls blamed my rapid mood swing on hormones. Not that I was thinking of him all the time- She sighed

‘Aw it doesn’t really matter.' she paused and turned serious 'Does it?’ she asked, quietly, not that anyone was bothered to listen to us.

‘No, why?’ I said, a bit to harshly and quickly, causing me to nearly choke on my water, i looked away, avoiding eye contact.

‘Because you cringe when you talk about him.' she shrugged 'Or maybe… you like him’ she added as a mumble. This caught me by surprise and my head jerked up, so I could look at her again.

‘Ew! No…’ I thought about that. No… I liked Jared… Jared, Jared, Jared.

‘Oh my God! Amelie, I was kidding! You do, don’t you?!’ she started gasoing and fanning herself, her eyes wide. I shook my head

   ‘No, he’s a friend’

‘Amelie, you’ve never called him a friend. You hated him. Always. Called him an unwanted, unnecessary blob of skin, blood and bones that no one likes or needs and is better off flying to a remote dessert island with all his money and leaving the rest of us to live very happy lives without him.’ she pointed out
