            I lose Adam.

In my drunk, staggering mess, I stumble outside for some air to try and sober up. The air is cold and the first few snowflakes of the year are lightly falling, landing like diamonds in my hair. I'm so busy watching them that I don't realize I'm not alone until the person speaks.

            "Cigarette?"

The voice is familiar but I can't place it until I look to see the man it belongs to. My eyes land on dirty, unwashed hair and smoke making the air between us hazy. But I don't have to see his face clearly to put two and two together.

"Leave me alone," I snap at Scooter, turning away. I fix my hat on my hair and begin to walk off but he grabs my arm, keeping me back. "Let go of me!"

His grip tightens and my jaw clenches, knowing that we're the only two people outside. His cigarette falls to the ground, burning out in the dusting of snow.

What time is it? Midnight? Even earlier in the morning? I have no idea, but now I desperately wish I went back to school at a respectable time. Maybe if I did I would stop getting myself into these messes.

"I just want to talk." His voice says the opposite.

I'm struggling, twisting my arm at all different angles to get away when suddenly the bar door opens so fast it hits the wall on the other side.

"Piper," Adam breathes, "I've been looking everywhere for you."
