(Zero's pov)

After the strange meeting with the snake, I thought it best to drag the kid back to the hospital in case he had a freak attack suddenly. When we returned to our room and changed into our gowns, Isoroku sat on his bed and remained quiet.

From the corner of my eyes, I could see his hands quiver. I looked towards the TV screen with a bored expression. "Stop shaking, I can hear your bed creaking from over here," I grumbled.

"A-Ah s-sorry Zero-chan..." He said in a wavering tone.

I sighed heavily. Switching off the TV, I turned to my side and stared into the boy's nervous gaze blankly. "I'll probably regret asking this...but, do you know that guy we met up with earlier?"

I noticed the visible gulp of his Adam's apple. He turned away and looked down at his hands. "Probably...I can't remember. Do I? Maybe? Why do I feel so...afraid...?"

My eyebrows scrunched up. 'Right...it was stupid to a guy who has no memories...'

Our door slid open to reveal a nurse. "Zero-san, a couple of people dropped off some gifts for you. We told them you were resting." She walked over and placed two plastic bags on the sheets of my bed. I hummed gratefully.

She nodded and took her leave. I rummaged through the bag, finding different foods and a bunch of art supplies. In one of the bags was a small note. I pulled it out to read.

My eyebrow twitched in annoyance while my smirk quirked in annoyance.

'This damned pest.'

Z-chan~! Don't miss me too much! I put a photo of me in there to help you sleep better.

-Rin.

I crushed the note and threw it to the side. "I swear, that guy..."

"Your family seems nice." I glanced at Isoroku from the corner of my eyes. His shaking had turned into little tremors. He was forcing a smile - trying pitifully to distract himself from his jumbled and coded memories.

"They're not my family," I muttered in response. I pulled out one of the pocky boxes that were buried beneath the rest of the bag's contents. "They adopted me."

"But they still care for you, right? I mean they brought you all that stuff to make feel better...I don't think people who'd just adopt you for the heck of it would go that far..." I became silent. I turned sharply towards him with a frown. He jumped from my stare. "Ahahah s-sorry.." He said nervously.
