Bella:

I watched as with a howl of pain Jacob fell to the floor, phasing as he lost consciousness. After seeing him in his wolf; the humongous, growling beast, the symbol of strength and danger; the harsh picture of anger personified; he looked so small and vulnrable curled up on the soft carpet, he looked peaceful; the look of cold certaintey wiped from his features as he took in deep even breaths as though he had not slept for days.

"Edward...Wh-"

His expression silenced me as he turned around.

"Bella, J-Jacob was being controlled.I don't know what or...who did this to him, but they wanted to kill you."

He was suddenly in front of me; inches from my face, his intoxicating cold breath making me shiver as it blew across my cheeks.

He grabbed me by the face as gently as he could, his eyes were wide with panic as he thought of me in danger.

"I won't let who ever did this to Jacob get to you. I PROMISE you Bella, you will never be in danger like that again."

He was shaking and I stared into his eyes, his thoughts were clear on his beautiful face and....they scared me.

"Edward. Look at me."

He was staring into space as panic consumed him; my safety more important to him than his own life. I grabbed his chin and using all of my strength I managed to pull his face to mine.

"Now, you listen to me Edward Cullen. Nothing. Nothing, will ever keep us apart again. Understand? This is just another part of life. You can't protect me from everything. I'm a danger magnet remember?"

He grimaced at the thought and I sighed.

"I just want to keep you safe..."

He said quietly into my hair. I let him hold me for a while longer and compose himself, I didn't have the strength to argue with him when he embraced me and I was enveloped in his intoxicating scent. My version of ectasy.

I felt eyes burning into my back and I broke away from my angel to stare deep into the gaze of Jacob.

"Jacob..."

I felt a mixture of emotions as he looked into my soul. It was barley an hour ago that he had broken down our front door with the intention of killing me. Despite Edward thinking otherwise I couldn't help but feel hurt that he had wanted to harm me. If only he would speak! I felt Edward turn to face Jacob too. His eyes wide.

"It's them."

He hissed and I flinched at the sound. He wasn't like this. I could never get used to his agressive side. I felt my heart race and my fear kicked in.

"Who?"

I asked, trying to slow down my heart beat. He turned his fierce eyes towards me and I was lost in their raging topaz blaze.

"The Volturi."

He spat.

I felt a cold fear settle into my bones at the words.

The Volturi from what I had heard were like vampire royalty; they were the most powerful coven in the world and the Cullens were a serious threat to that. I shivered as I remembered Edward's description of them. He had told me how they had sat in the dark on thrones for hundreds of years, so they looked almost ghostly and more terrifying than beautiful. They considered themselves the law. If a vampire was at risk of exposing what they were, they would be executed and disposed of.

Could my Angel be next?
