Chapter Twenty

Emma

I stood out in front of the St. Regis and glanced up at the tall building standing in front of me. The night lights were bright, and everything was beautiful outside. I looked down to my watch, 10:54. We were meeting at 11 in suite 2101. My heart pounded in realization that I was about to see him and spend time with him. I knew it wouldn’t be for long, but honestly right now I would take anything I could get. My shaking legs walked closer to the revolving doors and I looked at my reflection in the mirror and smoothed over the oversized white off the shoulder top I was wearing. I yanked down the material over my leather leggings, so I wouldn’t feel so self-conscious about my body. Someone snapped me back to reality by clearing their throat; he door man looked at me with a small grin. I couldn’t help but panic, did it look like I was coming here just to cheat on my fiancé?  A small smile formed on my lips, as he opened the door for me. I quickly slid off my engagement ring and dropped it down into my tote as I passed through.

“Good evening mam.” He said, with a nod.

I smiled at him and nodded my head. He knew, I know it. “Hello.” I said back trying to contain my incredibly shaking voice, while quickly walking passed him.

Every part of me knew it was probably just my nerves but I couldn’t help but feel like every time I turned the corner, someone I knew was going to be standing there. As I walked in the hotel, I pushed the childish thoughts out of my head and stood there taking in my surroundings. In my nineteen years of living, I had never been in this place. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. The lights from the huge chandelier were lighting up the whole place, and the peaceful white walls gave me a piece of serenity. The place was extremely quiet though, it was almost suffocating. I stood there for a moment and looked at the unfamiliar people walking swiftly passed me and I took a deep breath.

Each time I found myself meeting with Beau, I felt somewhat nervous until I had been around him. Really, none of this was believable. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening.

I finally started to walk towards the row of huge elevators on the back wall, when I reached up to push the button; I found my hands shaking uncontrollably. I quickly grabbed my hand with my other free hand and squeezed. There wasn’t a part of me that could understand why I was so nervous. It wasn’t like this was the first time.

            Or the last time.

The wait for the elevator was excruciatingly unbearable, because it felt like it was taking forever. My eyes glanced up to see the arrow slowly moving to each number, every now and then stopping. I took a deep ragged breath wishing it would hurry but suddenly I felt a presence behind me but I didn't turn around to see who it was.
