Chapter 17: The Battle

Dad ended up sending Ryder, Hunter, and I home, He and mom would be being discharged soon. Hunter came back to the house with us. I made us all something to eat and we sat in the kitchen. Basically waiting for our parents. I couldn't think straight. Everything that has happened today has given me mental whip-lash and I'm really feeling it right now. So, my ex-boyfriend and I talked, like really talked for the first time in a long time. My brother and I now were officially the only children that our parents have, and My "best friend" is trying to get my brother to get her pregnant, buy her a house, and marry her... all in that order.

We were eating when there was a knock at the front door and then it opened. It was Nikki. "Hey, guys." She smiled walking passed me to give Ryder and hug and kiss. I looked at Hunter and rolled my eyes and then gave my brother the "Seriously" look.  "I called and told her what was going on, on the way home." Ry looked at me and said. "Speaking of which, how is your mom?" she looked at me and asked. "Like you really care." I was pissed off thinking of the conversation we had in the waiting room. "Yes! She's been my second mom my whole life! One day she'll be my mother-in-law." "Oh, right. After you get your baby and your house, and every other expensive thing that you want." "Paislee, what the hell is your problem?!" "Certain things are coming to light for me Nikkole. Like how much of a selfish, materialistic bitch you are! You don't associate with someone unless there is something in it for you! Like Zee and Ryder. They gave you everything that you ever wanted and you were never satisfied!" I got up from my chair.

"Should we stop this?" Hunter looked at Ry. "No. Let them go." Ryder shook his head. "Oh stop it Pais! You're just jealous because I got Zee and you didn't! I knew from day one day that you loved him. But he didn't want you!" "Really?! I had him way before you did! He always chose me over you and you know it!" "Only because you'd go crying to him whenever Wyatt screwed up and hurt you! And he couldn't stand to see you unhappy." "Exactly! He'd come every time I called for him. Every time I needed him." "Paislee don't make me say things I'll regret!" "Like what? You've got secrets too?! Well let's hear them! Mine had to come out, so why don't yours?" I pushed her buttons.

"Zee got me pregnant!" she yelled and the room went quiet. "What?" I asked after a minute of silence. "Yes, we were 10 weeks along when I lost it. That's why I wanted to drink that night. That was what torn Zee and I apart. So, you can sit here and tell me time and time again how you lost your virginity to him and how you two loved each other more than anything or anyone else in the world. I know he loved you more than he loved me. I know he would've rather have been with you the whole time. But I was going to have his child, not you. I lost his child, not you!" "Did you know this?" I looked at Ryder. "No, I didn't." he shook his head. "Paislee, I didn't mean to.... I'm sorry." Nikkole started to talk through her tears. "Save it. I don't want to hear anything out of you! That is something that you should've told me. I was supposedly your best friend!" "Oh, don't you even start with that! You're the one who kept the fact that you slept with Zee from me for 5 years! And you let me date him knowing all of this!" "Because he asked me not to tell anyone! I'm sure he asked you not to tell anyone about the baby." "He only asked me not to tell you!" "You will never be a part of this family as long as I am alive. You will never be a part of my life again! We are done here! Get out!" I yelled. "Nikkole, can I talk to you outside?" Ryder asked walking her out.

"Do you feel better now?" Hunter asked walking over and putting his arms around me. "Yeah, I guess. I always knew that she's been hiding something from me." I sighed. "Yeah? Why do I get the feeling that your heart is breaking?" "Because Zee never kept anything from me. Why did he keep that?" I could feel the tears falling down my face. "Knowing him, he had to have had a good reason. I knew of you, but not Nikkole remember? He talked so highly of you." "It doesn't matter anymore. He's gone and we'll never know what he was thinking about anything." "There are only two people who knew what he was thinking. Him and Nikkole." "Yeah, well neither of them are going to tell me." I shrugged. "Hey." He pulled me closer. "What?" I asked not really wanting to talk about this anymore. "Shut up. I love you." He kissed me and I smiled. "There it is. There is that smile." He smiled too.

Ryder came back inside and looked at me. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah, I just needed to get all of that off of my chest and out in the open with her." I sighed and nodded. "Do you think that you'll even get passed what happened here tonight?" "I don't exactly know yet. You might want to ask me in the morning when I've calmed down and slept on it. Are you okay?" I asked thinking of my brother. "Yeah, I had a long talk with her. I decided it was time on the way home from the hospital." "So, what now?" "I need some time to figure things out. We're not broken up. At least not yet. I have a lot to think about." "Because of me?" "No, because of her. Tonight just showed me what I needed I guess?"

"Wait a minute. You planned this! You knew that I was pissed off enough to start something. And, that's why you invited her over. You wanted to know what else she wasn't saying." I figured it out. "Yes, I planned this. I knew if anyone could get the truth out of her, it was you. Not to mention, I did think of your feelings and you needed to get things out and I realized that." "Before or after you formed your plan?" "Honestly before." "Good, you better have thought about me first." I hugged my brother.

We heard Dad's truck pull in and shut off. "Let's go help mom." Ryder smiled. "We're coming." Hunter smiled and we followed Ry out the door.
