For everything we do and say
there is a reckoning to pay.
Every little word and action
charged with interest on judgement day.
A broken promise, a friendship lost.
Words of derision; a marriage
asunder, the final cost.
As we climb the great mountain
back to love, trust and grace
There’ll be time enough
To ponder our fate.
The actions we’ve done
And the things we have said...
But there will be time to be absolved.
There will be time to be forgiven.
Time is a healer, my Mother said
And if not a healer then a salver
of pain, a stauncher of blood
to the worst of the wounds.
Nothing’s forever and life must go on.
As we start a new era we must
wipe the slate clean,
re-boot the computer,
re-scan the screen.
For there is hope and forgiveness
from God and from man.
A new us to shine forth to the world anew.
A hope to find love, a new purpose for being
of friendship and harmony and selfless giving.
We must be true to ourselves and not harbor hate
and think of each moment as a gift come late.
