The Body Politic.

Letters form words making sentences of meaning.

Meanings that can trick, lie, confuse, bemuse.

Ever since man learnt to write, he learnt to lie.

Ever since he learnt to speak, he learnt to bear

false witness, delivering crushing blows of deceit

to those for whom he should care for the most.

There is no compassion, for there can be none.

There can be no civilization, only illusion, gloss,

veneer – covering every worm eaten promise,

corrupt decision, false hope, shattered dream.

The best we can expect – the rapacious beast contained,

caged by the fragile mantle of order, convention, trust.
