Chapter III: The Unfortunate Event

            When I woke up in the morning and realized it was time to go to school I shut down my alarm, and dragged myself out of bed, but while I was making breakfast I heard a slight sound coming from my back patio. As I looked out onto my backyard I noticed that in the corner of the yard there was a whole bunch of animals gathered into one place, and I kept hearing noises as is someone was in trouble, that's when I saw a little fur ball drowning in the pond. I quickly ran out and scooped it up from the pond the fur ball was actually a kitten, it was cold and shivering as well, it was covered in wounds almost like those animals were picking on him. I took him inside and like I had thought it was much worse than expected so today I guess that I was ditching my 1st block class to take this little guy to the vet. I covered him in warm towels, and put him in a box and then I quickly drove to the vet which was closer than I imagined, and as I came in and talked with the veterinary. I saw as Taylor came from the back room and he said, "mom, dad I did my chores already so I'm leaving, and don't forget to..." he stopped talking when he saw me, and looked to be a bit embarrassed that I had seen him wearing a pink pawed print apron which was funny. Then Dr. Elizabeth turned towards Taylor and said, "what's the matter son is there something wrong?" He then nodded his head, and then he kind of pretended as I was a customer and Dr. Elizabeth said, "well then Alissa you seem to have a poor sick kitten here my guess is that you should leave him here and I will make him feel better ok." I then smiled and left the kitten in her hands and she began to tend to it, and after a couple of minutes it went to sleep, Taylor pointed towards the door while he was taking off his work apron. Which was still funny, "how did you know that I lived here or that my parents owned this place?" I looked at him somewhat confused, "I didn't, but this morning as I was eating breakfast I heard a noise coming from my yard and I went to check it out and it was that little kitten, and well I found the nearest pet clinic and your mother told me she could help me so I rushed over here." He then looked to be questioning my thoughts, "fine I believe you but never tell anyone about that...oh and do you think that maybe you could give me a ride, I mean James usually comes to pick me up but today Laura called him and told him to pick her up right away so yea I'm kind of slumped." I smiled and then he acted rather uncomfortable, but it was no trouble so I agreed we were heading the same way anyways. He got his stuff and I had my bag in the back seat so I was ready to go to school. As soon as I opened the door, he sat down and noticed how dark it looked, then just as he was about to ask me some questions that I really didn't want to answer I pulled out of the parking lot, but while driving I saw a Starbucks and I needed my shot of espresso, so I pulled into the drive thru I was seriously worn out. "Do you want something...?" he shook his head right away and well I just ordered a medium French Vanilla latte, and then headed to school. "I thought that the grey Jeep was yours?" he then looked at me and said, "yea, I wish but we don't have enough money to give ourselves that much luxury. I feel bad enough making James and Nick pay for stuff that I eat or like most of the time just because I can't afford it." Taylor suddenly looked shocked as to why he was telling me all of this but then again I guess that he needed a stranger to listen to him and give him some encouragement. "That's okay there is nothing wrong with not having money because money doesn't make a person and what makes a person is their personality, and education but most importantly their hearts...at least that's what I have been told." Taylor looked at me for a very long time and then he said, "who are you?" I was super shocked and well I was kind of surprised when he  actually smiled and said thanks. "So as payment for taking care of that kitten how about a car," he then looked somewhat shocked, "I can't take a car for free like that plus it isn't much you can just pay us instead." He was freaking out and well I laughed, "well its not going to be free you need to fix a little problem that it has it's just replacing the car door no big deal," he then smiled and I kind of felt like I was Santa Claus. We then agreed that when I didn't need to babysit that he would come over and work on the car for a while, I just hope that he doesn't find out about more about my life than necessary. When we were close to the school I somewhat caught the scent of blood, and as I looked at the school it looked eerily dark well its atmosphere at least felt ominous, and then I noticed that there were a lot of people parked on the side or in front of the school. But there were a lot of policemen and news reporters, "wow!...what happened here there hasn't been this much commotion since the last voting election." I looked over at Tylor who was clearly as clueless as I was, I then noticed that Nick was parked on the curve in front of the school and well I parked behind him but before stepping out I quickly put on my sun glasses and got out of the car. I noticed that up ahead James was talking to his girlfriend Laura who seemed too busy to care about what was going on inside, and well as I walked towards Nick's Hummer I noticed that Nick looked kind of worried. That's when Taylor knocked on his window and Nick jumped in surprised as he stepped out, they began to talk but I wanted to know what was happening so I decided to find an officer. "Hey Mr. Policemen can you tell me what just happened here? Why can't we go into the building?" the officer stared at me and I knew that he wasn't going to tell me anything so I slighly pulled down my sun glasses and made him look into my eyes. He instantly got hypnotized, "we got a report early in the morning one of the secrateries found Mr. Lawrence dead in his office, it was a horrible bloody scene but no suspects yet." I was shocked to hear that Mr. Lawrence was dead, but I instantly put my sun glasses back on since my eyes weren't use to the intense UV rays so once I was able to see again, the policemen was barely getting out of his trance, "thank you!" was all that I could say and he looked somewhat confused but he went back to holding some group of kids from entering the building, but I knew deep down that something wasn't right here. I headed back to Taylor and Nick and they both seemed a bit dark almost like a dark cloud was haunting them, and as I got closer it seemed that they snapped out of it. "Hey Alissa! I'm glad that you made it to school later than expected from you but still I bet that everyone is texting others telling them not to come...my guess is that school might be canceled for a while. Oh and I need to talk to you in private and give you something." Taylor then spoke while ignoring the last part, "or maybe for the whole entire year..." Nick and I both glared at Taylor and then he said, "well at least until they find out who did it, we need to get a new principal although I have to say I really liked Mr. Lawrence a lot." I too began to think the same thing, until James was next to us with his girlfriend Laura, "what are we talking about...you do know that you guys huddled up like that whispering to each other looks rather suspicious." Nick turned to face James and then he looked towards Taylor and it almost seemed like they were communicating using telepathy, because at that time that Nick made eye contact with Taylor, Taylor nodded and grabbed James by his arm and both of them ran off dragging James with them. Just as they were out of sight I noticed that I was left alone with Laura and she was a real bitch from what I heard from a friend that I had made in chemistry. I started to walk away and that's when she stopped me, "hey! Alissa...hey aren't you listening to me?" I turned around and she had an evil grin almost like the grinch but more ugly. "What is it! Do you have a problem with me or are you looking to fight although it won't end good for your cheap extensions," Laura then suddenly turned red as if she was either angry or embarrassed or maybe both. But still she messed with the wrong Vamp, and today I wasn't feeling well enough to let her go easy, "listen well Alissa I don't care who you are or where you came from, just as long as you leave Eva, Tiff, and me alone because you don't know WHO your messing with." I mentally repeated what I had said that the one that they shouldn't mess with would be me, but then again they will soon figure that out in either two ways the good or the bad way it was their choice that and I didn't feel like repeating myself. I then felt the earlier presence of someone watching me and for a second I thought it might have been a tracker or something but it was just too noticeable for it to be a tracker. I started to ignore Laura and walk away from her, "Hey! Listen to me! Arghh, you better not get close to Nick because he belongs to Eva!" I quickly stopped again and this time I turned around and headed for Laura. She stopped her anger and then she looked at me and I pulled down my sun glasses and I managed to hypnotize her. "Tell me do you know all of Eva's secrets?" she then nodded and then I smiled since this was just too good of a chance to pass on, "tell me all of her secrets my dear..." Laura instantly went into very vivid detail about Eva's love line and every dirty little secret including the fact that she is cheating on Nick, and I also found out that the nose job was actually done by a cheap surgeon. I then scoffed since these wanna be Princess didn't even have the decent enough money to buy a better car or house. From what Laura told me Eva's father was going thru some tough times with his company going into debt thanks to his greedy little daughter who likes to party all night and has a bit of shadowy secrets. Its funny that Eva's parents are still paying for that car, and they owe the bank money, and it seems that Eva told her parents that she was working as an intern for a big company that pays a lot, only that it seems that it isn't that type of work. I knew from the first moment that I saw her that she was a slut, but who knew since some see her as an angel or role model which she clearly isn't but to find out she under went two abortions was just too ridiculous. I then released her since there wasn't anything else that I didn't know since I could basically tell from what Laura told me that Eva was basically capable of doing anything. By the time that Laura snapped out from her trance I was barley getting into my car, and resting my head against my seat I closed my eyes and thought for a while I didn't know if it was the Vampire King's doing. But even if it was I doubt that he would want to use violence or bloodshed since it was too risky it was a lot of commotion and it would be impossible to hide or write off as an animal attack when it happened in close quarters, and in their law that was how he ruled the Vampire Kingdom from the shadows. A Kingdom that used to belong to my family, regardless of whether it was the Vampire King or one of his goons the motive was clearly unsure I don't think Mr. Lawrence was involved with them. When I opened my eyes I felt a sudden chill go down my back my blood instantly became cold and I heard it for the first time the rage and craziness of a Vampire Level D which was close to becoming a mindless zombie. I quickly got out of the car since I noticed that there were a lot of people here, and I began to wonder where it was since I felt that it was so close to me. I then looked towards the building which still had the dark aura around it, and there it was a shadowy figure looking directly at me, and for some reason I didn't panic since it looked like the shadow wasn't a tracker. I decided that I should find out what that thing is before things get out of hand here, and I'm forced out of this town with pitchforks and torches, I wondered around the school until I found the back gate. Which surprisingly wasn't guarded by any of the police men or staff, and I bet that none of the other student's thought about the back entrence, but now the problem was getting over the locked gates. It was either the sharp pointy gate or the tall wall, and well although both ideas sounded good I didn't want to get inpaled by the sharp pointy gate, and well I took the wall plus it looked like it might be easier and there was a tree close by so that I could jump or hide if needed. When I was ready to climb the wall I had to back up a little that way I could run and then jump which I hadn't done in a while, I was at a good distance that I would be able to jump the wall and land on the tree. I began to run and instead of jumping I began to run up the wall which I didn't know I could do but then again I didn't know well what I could do since I didn't have anyone to teach me. But I have been getting better at both my abilities and my blood thrist since I can now control some urges. I sat on the wall trying to spot any odd things that struck out of place on the field in front of me and then to the school behind me that didn't belong there, and then the scent of blood began to interefere with my sense, so I jump towards the tree and tried to pint point the exact location of where the scent was coming from. When I landed on the floor I began to follow the scent all the way towards the side of the building, and around the edge probably it was farther than the school itself. I wasn't sure if this little shed still counted as being property of the school, but either way the dark aura was around it and the smell of blood was stronger. It was an abandoned shed that the janitor could have used but it seemed that nobody used it anymore, and as I walked up to it I noticed that it had the same dark aura around it that the school did, and the door was ajar. It only took a gust of wind to open the door and make it creepy but at the same time inviting, I went in and it was a pitch black shed except for the holes that were located on the roof of the shed which light seemed to stream thru. I began walking using my sense of smell to locate the blood, and as I kept walking I noticed that I had been walking for a long time, and that I was no longer on wooden floor. I was now on dirt since I could smell the damp moist ground from beneath my feet, and it was a good thing that this morning I decided against my favorite pair of black stilettos, and had worn my black heel boots. I kept walking for another while and then I smelled the scent that filled the cave, it was definately...fresh blood, I could also tell that it was AB+ and that it belonged to a women. I kind of like the taste of blood type AB+ but for some reason I didn't like the effect of how I instantly changed my behavior. Since certain bloods can make you either nice or mean, the negatives are mostly; mean, lazy, or calm. While the positives are; nice, perky, and crazy, but then again I never went near those positive type of bloods ever again unless I was really desperate. I could no longer see the light of the opened door which meant that I was in a deep, deep cave and every once in a while I kept hearing noise coming from farther in or I would see shadows moving around. I then heard a loud growl almost like a monster was being threatened, and I quickly ran that way and the smell of blood seemed to get stronger, and then I noticed that I was no longer walking on a dirt path. I could hear my boots stepping on pavement and it echoed around but so did the sound of dripping water beginning to drip from the walls, and that's when I noticed that I was in what looked to be the swear, that would explain the smell. Although the smell was disgusting I concentrated really hard on the scent of the blood since it so happened that I found a small drop, which meant that I was getting closer to the rabid vampire. I then heard a slight cry and I saw the vampire who had probably killed Mr. Lawrence although I should have first checked the body of Mr. Lawrence to see if it was a student or a vampire. But I kind of had a clue that it might have been a vampire, I mean that all day yesterday I felt like someone was watching me and I saw a shadow that kept disappearing. I wonder if it was a vampire or a ghost, but who knows a ghost doesn't seem powerful enough to kill a living being while a vampire can instantly kill anything in its path. I inched a little bit closer to see if I could get a glimpse of who it was, and as I looked thru the thick darkness I saw that it was a somewhat out of controlled vampire that wasn't even born into a vampire family. He was definitely bitten by another vampire and whoever it was he didn't even take the time to teach him how to control his thirst and power. I then noticed on who he was feeding on actually there was a pile of drained bodies behind him, and I knew that the person that he was now feeding on was someone that I had met the yesterday. Because she was my English teacher Mrs. Rosario and I couldn't help but feel helpless because she was almost dead and that guy looked like he would rather kill her than let her live. As I was about to hide behind the wall so that I wouldn't have to witness this I accidently hit a can and that's when that rabid vampire made a sudden stop and he actually took last drop of blood which actually ended Mrs. Rosario's life. I immediately backed away only that I hit against something that turned out to be a wall that wasn't even there and then I knew that this vampire was a master of mind manipulation. I backed away trying to concentrate only that this time he was right in front of me and his red eyes were glowing rather brightly and that's when for a slight second I thought that I was dreaming. He pushed me against the wall and then he started to move closer to me so that I wouldn't be able to move or do anything, "what do you want?...why did you kill all of those people?" he looked at me with so much intensity. He got closer to my face and I noticed that he was kind of hot for someone that was actually a cold blooded killer but then again it wasn't his fault his sovereign ran out on him before he could explain certain things. He got closer and I noticed that he had a bit of control over the monster that lives inside of us vampires but then again he had such a painful look, and I knew that he didn't want to be like this forever. He began to smell me I think he must have thought that I was a human but I suddenly felt that I was more in danger since he began to nibble at my neck and his gaze never looked away from my own. "You smell familiar...to that girl..." I looked at him and I had no idea that he could actually talk or rather what he was talking about, and thats when I noticed that to fully become a vampire you had to drink human blood which he already did. Which meant that he needed to drink vampire blood or my blood, I slowly thought it over about the consequences if I left him alone and keep letting him fall under the mindless zombie category which would mean that he would keep killing innocent people it would eventually fall out of proportion. So there really wasn't much choice but to become his sovereign, it was risky but I'm willing to do it just to find out who had killed Mr. Lawrence I then brought my hand to my face since in my family there is a rule that says that our neck is reserved for the one we love and only then will he or she be able to drink from the source. I bit my wrist and he immediately began to drink from there, and I could sense that his monster was being subsided and after a while I began to lose my mind it felt like he was draining everything that I had. That's when he stopped and I leaned back against the wall, but he looked to be scared or mad although I didn't know if it was directed at me or at himself for finally realizing what he had done wasn't a nightmare. I looked at him and his eyes were going back to their original color which didn't look so original since they were silver blue, and his hair was dark brown almost black and he had such a pale face his face features were mysterious and sharp he was so handsome that I didn't care if I bled to death as long as I was in his arms. He had such an intensity about him with his brooding looks and beautiful face but I guess that the only thing I could say about this guy was that he was way hotter than Nick and that he was unlucky to have run into a careless vampire. "Do you remember what happened? Where do you live or what's your name? Can you remember anything before this happened?" He whipped his mouth with his sleeve and I noticed that he was really dirty although if he wasn't dirty I would think that he was hot still, and I wouldn't be surprised if he looked like a god when he was clean. "My name is Tristan Knight, and I live here...well not here but I went to this school and I lived at the Knight's Manor here in Blair Wood. I kind of know and don't know what happened but I remember that one night I went to a near by club, I was going to meet up with a girl that I had met at a park but I never knew her name. But when I was in the club I noticed that it looked somewhat dark almost gothic and then I found her she was surrounded by a mob of other guys that looked handsome but still not better than I did. But when she saw me she quickly told all of those guys to beat it, and I felt special she took me to dance floor and we danced a couple of songs, and then when I got tired we headed for the bar. She ordered a Bloody Mary while she ordered me a Martini special and after a while I was dead drunk but I remember that I felt something on my neck and then it felt like the air in my lungs was being sucked out of me...it was really painful for my heart." I looked at Tristan for a really long time and well since I became his seer he had to follow me and be with me, "do you have a place to go since you can't stay down here anymore." He looked up at the swear tunnel and for the first time he realized that there was an awful smell so he covered his nose but for vampires it was hard not to smell things since we practically smelled them 3x better than anything alive on this earth. He then looked at me and well I kind of had a feeling that he no longer had a place to go so I took his hand and guided him back towards the shed, and for a second he hesitate and looked at me and I began to wonder why he didn't want to follow me. "Hey what's wrong its okay you can stay with me," he looked at me for a while and then he said, "its not that...its just that the sun hurts me," I then looked at him and noticed that he wasn't kidding. He was actually afraid of the sun, "you don't need to be afraid of the sun it won't kill you if you use the right protection...well actually it won't kill you at all plus its almost sun down," I then began to laugh since he really didn't know anything. I then told him to stay inside while I went to get a pair of sun glasses and bring my car around so it was closer to the gate, "stay here and don't move I'm going to help you get over this whole vampire thing so you can live a partial normal life so don't move I'll be right back." I then headed back the way I had came in, and climbed up the tree and I noticed that everyone that was here was gone I felt relieved to say that everyone was out of danger, I jumped onto the wall and landed safely on the sidewalk. But while I was dusting my self off from all of the tree branches intwined in my hair I felt as if someone was watching me so I turned around and I looked at Nick, James, and Taylor as they all stared at me with surprised faces. "What are you doing here?...I thought that everyone left already?" That was all I could say and I began to laugh awkwardly seeing as how they probably saw me jumping from the wall that was close to the school which in a way makes me look suspicious.
