Chapter X: The Barriers Of Love

I stood there frozen with fear since looking into Larks glowing red eyes I knew that his intentions now were to kill, and not to feed it was the first time that I saw his eyes glow that deep bloody red color and I bet Nick had no idea what was going on. "GET AWAY FROM HER!" Lark growled as well which scared me but Nick didn't step away he held my hand tighter and I knew he was thinking of a way out of this without Lark chasing us. Especially if he was in hunting mode, I then started to peel away Nick's fingers one by one before Lark charged at us, "I'm really sorry about this Nick but its for your own good that we go our separate ways." His blue eyes looked so sad that it broke my heart more than it did to him, but I was doing this to save his life, "NOW! I'M LOSING PATIENCE!" I looked into Nick's eyes one more time and I hoped that he received my message, "meet me tomorrow I'm sorry to be doing this but I don't want Lark to kill you he's blood crazed I believe...please go before its too late." He looked surprised my guess was that he heard my voice in his thoughts and started to back away, "fine I understand..." he then walked away and I made sure that Lark didn't follow him. I then walked towards Lark only to see his eyes glowing bright red which meant he was pissed, "ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!" he didn't smile he just kept staring at me. And as I walked past him he grabbed onto my wrist and pulled me back so that I would face him, "I won't be happy as long as you keep on socializing with humans, and you know very well where socializing with humans ends with our kind." I was about to cry but I held it in since in a way I knew what Lark was trying to tell me but it was too late Nick and I have a connection now, and I really don't want to give that up for anything or anyone. "Alissa you know that your paths will never cross in any way because of what we are...to us he is just a source of food and you know it in your heart you belong with us," he looked to be consoling me that is until we were interrupted. "If I may Lark...I wan to talk to the Princess," I turned around and it had to be the king of the jerks, "what do you want? I don't want to talk to you after you tried to kill my friends!" he looked down and then he faced me. "I'm really sorry...I didn't mean it...I just couldn't keep it under control you know what I mean," I then noticed he was acting different, "what are you talking about?...wait!...why are you even apologizing well you should, but you should tell me where my sister is!" He looked down at the floor evading my gaze and then I realized that he didn't want to look at me, "if you know something please tell me," he finally met my eyes and looked at me, "your sister is working with the Vampire King." When he said that my mind instantly froze and then I realized something, the necklace and all the other things that has happened, "you should know she's been helping the King find you." I looked at Lark only to noticed that his eyes were back to the light color grey and he was just as confused if not worried, "what about my sister...I saw her in my vision she was burned alive I could feel it." Lark looked to be exasperated because he was torn between believing and hoping that his sister was alive and thinking and dreading that his sister wanted to hurt him by making up her own death and making him relive it again and again. Dimitri narrowed his gaze I think he was trying to go for a serious face, "she's also alive both of them are with the Vampire King...your sisters have always planned this from the beginning to leave and destroy the family that shunned them for who they were." I wasn't understanding anything was there something about my sister that I didn't see when I was younger, I don't really think anyone hated her or wanted to do something bad to her. She was part of the family and everyone admire her she was talented and beautiful, "but why did they betray us?" he looked at me and almost gave me a sympathetic look, "because they both lost someone they loved by the hands of your family." When Dimitri said that I thought that he might be making this up to try and hide the fact that maybe my sister and cousin were taken as slaves. "Alissa your parents killed her birth mother Lady Larissa and Lark your parents killed the love of her life because he wasn't a pure blood," I noticed that when he said that Lark tensed he seemed to have remembered something because his eyes had gone back to the crimson red color. "I...I don't remember Marisa ever loving anyone...I would have known...she's my sister we know everything about each other..." he then looked at me, and I saw it the moment it hit him, "no...that's not true father...he...he only wanted to prove how much that man loved my sister." I grabbed his hand to give him reassurance that he wasn't alone and he calmed down, "that day I was playing in his office when he came to see my sister my father asked him to have a drink with him and then he offered him money to test him." For a second Lark wanted to shake the thoughts of the truth away because he didn't want to know the truth...because the truth was that Marisa had killed their own parents. "That man Vladimir Vrikovich fled from Russia but we didn't know why? But regardless he took the money even though my father proposed he marry my sister, but he declined and took the money and never looked back." I could see the regret in his eyes as he realized he had erased each little memory of this so Marisa wouldn't find out, "I didn't want to see her hurt...and neither did father so he spoke to Marisa with a higher authority which was Alissa's parents." I hadn't known that my parents also played a part here, "they told Marisa...or more like forced my sister to obey the rules...I don't blame your parents since it was at the request of my own parents." I could then understand why Allison and my cousin Marisa got along so well, "anyways months passed after that when that guy returned wanting more money in order to stay silent about their arrangement." I wasn't surprised if this jerk got staked by someone, "I followed him once he got what he wanted it wasn't that hard to follow him to a pub that was somewhat close to the club I inherited and..." I  suddenly stopped him, "wait your confusing me how did a 5 year old child get into a pub?" Lark smiled at me, "you didn't know why I was special...do you remember that cat that always followed you?" I looked at Lark curiously, "yes...I do...why?" I was afraid of what he was going to tell me, "he was my cat...or rather it was myself." Lark suddenly started to laugh I guess he needed that, "regardless at the time I met you I really wasn't 5, I was already 16...I just wanted to grow up with you so I became your younger cousin...but even so you are still older than me." Lark started contemplating something in his mind and I realized Dimitri still standing here, "Lark...you...you can reverse your time cloak?" Lark looked at Dimitri really weird, "yes...why do you ask?" Dimitri had a certain glow in his eyes, "oh...no reason its just there hasn't been a vampire in history that can do that other than the Snow Queen," I looked at him curiously, "Snow Queen? Who is that?" Lark and Dimitri stared at each other, "no one just an old legend...but going back to the story what are we going to do about your sisters," I looked around thinking of a plan, "well I need to know where my sister is first; in order to get close enough to talk to her." Dimitri made a sort of face that looked somewhat mad, "we don't have time for that I know where she's at, and I'm pretty sure that Marisa is there as well." I looked at Lark to see his reaction but he was more than willing to trust his old friend, but for some reason I wasn't so sure in trusting a guy that almost killed Nick and his friends and was related to Solomon. I gave Lark a really hard look but for some reason he was too dumb to not recognize it, "take me to my sister," before I could even protest we had teleported somewhere, "this is the Underground Kingdom of the Vampire King...here take these capes it will keep your faces hidden." I took the black cape from Dimitri and put it on Lark seemed to have put it on faster because he was already walking ahead of us, "how is this even possible?" Lark turned around to face Dimitri and I had to agree this place was beautiful. "It is all the Vampire King's doing he created an Eden for us vampires even if we are below the humans we will rise soon enough and take back our place," the way Dimitri said it gave me the chills. But Lark didn't seem the least affected if anything he might be glad that he won't have to kill Nick himself, "shall we get going then?" Lark began to follow Dimitri thru a narrow cave entrance. "This is the only other access to the inside of the Vampire Kings Castle any other entrance is well guarded," we began to walk it was dark and cold as well as slippery, "how much further to the self proclaimed vampire kings castle?" Dimitri turned around and looked at me, "not much further but you have to be careful where you step," I looked around and I noticed tiny red lights in the water, "are those land mines?" I could no longer see Dimitri's face but Lark seemed to tensed and I knew why we had walked into a trap and now there was no turning back.
