"Sir, are you sure?" I quietly ask the speaker of my phone, why on earth would he let me stay at his place?

"Yes, I'm rather sure, are you questioning your boss?" He said back in an almost irritated tone. Jesus Christ, I swear this man is bi-polar with his attitude

"You'll bring your belongings to the office today, I'll get someone to take them while you're working, got that sweetheart?" He said, his voice a condescending tone.

"...yes sir..." I muttered under my breath; my voice ever so slightly strained.

"Good, see you today." He answered back curtly before hanging up.

What the hell just happened?

I'm snapped back into concentration as Ron, my dog, happily licks my arm with a wagging tail. Huh, I sure do hope Mr Luton likes dogs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I yawn, tilting my head as I turn the corner, my apartment just around the corner. According to Ma, we have a traitor in the company, meaning another late-night search through coworkers' computer files and looking through security footage planted in the offices.

However, I have a gut feeling that something will go wrong...

But then again Amelia and Ma both say I overthink sometimes, surely that's what's happening now. Right?

I let out a huff of air, the winter air causing my breath to frost up into an almost smoky effect. I shove my hands in my pockets, it's odd for people to say but I love winter, some may say it signals death but I don't believe that.

I believe winter is a new beginning.

Sure it may be the cause of things dying away and certain animals hiding away into hibernation but that's not the point. The point is that in the end new life will blossom after badness.

I smile softly, my speedwalking slowing down to a calm and more laid-back walk, I should just take my time and relax more. I have plenty of time to get home, find that two-faced traitor and then do my loyal job of snitching.

I looked down at my feet, taking slow steps until I heard the sound of quiet whimpering coming from a nearby pet shop. I couldn't help but give the area a quick glance around before wearily walking in. The shop is filled with birds singing, cats meowing and the faint sound of whimpering. The shopkeeper has a frown, quietly speaking to someone over the phone, but instead of paying attention to that I decided to explore. As I walk I then come across a small puppy held by what seems to be an oldish sort of man with a uniform I can't quite recognise.

I couldn't help but be curious as I walked closer, tapping the man on the shoulder who turned to me with a tired expression.

"Everythin' ight Madam?" The man asked, his voice low and monotone.

What a mood...

"Hey, just wondering about this beautiful bugger u got here," I said, trying to sound as friendly as possible as I glanced down at the small Doberman pup trying to wiggle out of his grip.

It was silent for a moment. Even the phone call the shopkeeper was in had stopped as she raised an eyebrow and glanced over at me, the man and the puppy.

Awkward...

"Oh...uhm, sure...!" The man said, his voice changing into a more cheerful active as he gently put the little pup in the best position for me to hold. Never seen someone so willing to hand over such an adorable thing funny enough.

I just carefully held the little guy as his tail wagged.

"He's a Doberman, correct?" I ask under my breath, keeping a close eye on the pup as it happily licked my face. The man gave a nod and before I knew it the shopkeeper came over to me with speed.

And that's when I had to make a decision.

According to the smaller man who was at the cashier this little guy was getting too old to be in the shop. Apparently, people were too hesitant to buy a Doberman due to their bad reputation, meaning now he is being forced into a shelter which euthanizes dogs due to overcrowding... This explains the man taking him out of his cage, I'm guessing his uniform was from the shelter he was being transferred to.

Well, it's not much of a decision in truth.

I ain't letting an innocent dog die because people's thoughts are tinted with bad stories from a breed.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I sigh, walking into my office, my hair in a messy bun as I hold my dog's leash with one hand and my handbag around my shoulder.

I tilt my head up lazily. Jesus fucking christ. I did not sleep a wink last night how the hell am I meant to make it to this morning?

I groan, making my way to my desk and sitting on my chair.

This is going to be one long day, especially if I keep thinking about being with him in a house for god knows how long...

A deep voice came from behind me.

"Never said you had a dog sweetheart."
