⚠️In this explanation, there will be spoilers to Wriothesley's lore and story quest.⚠️
In this AU, Wriothesley was not accused of the murder of his parents from back when he was a child. Instead, one of his foster siblings took the fall for him, and was punished with the death scentence. So when Neuvillette was hit was this information (Obviously not knowing that Wrio was guilty), he was natrually very surprised.
