Pt3. Viper, Ava and Jasper

-"Were the extra flips really necessary, East?" Ava calls down from the helm, steering the ship away from the shore and into the open sea.

Jasper tosses you a bottle of water. "Swift as always. Are you hurt?"

You shake your head as you catch the bottle, promptly taking a drink. "The doctor's facilities are under prepared. It almost feels too easy taking from the poor fool." You take a seat on the deck.

"You were saying that it probably was a sign of danger though right?" Jasper sits beside you, his wings wrapping around his body. "The doctor left this chaos emerald under lighter security right? What does that mean for us?"

You chuckle quietly, taking it out of its wrappings, "Two things off the top of my head- Either he wanted us to have it, which I doubt; Or he couldn't send the resources he needed to better secure it. Either way he's lost a power source and wasn't prepared for us. This is a win both ways you spin it."

Jasper looked at the emerald with big eyes, "May I hold it? I've never been this close to one before..."

You roll your eyes, handing it over. "As far as I'm concerned it's just a big gemstone. This is my second time having one in my possession but I don't know how to tap into their energy." You tisk your tongue, the emerald's blue glow filling your mind with possibilities. If only you could harness it...

Jasper looks it over cautiously, "So weird to think that this little thing can cause so much destruction." He flips it over, dragging a finger around it's perimeter. "Do you think we could send these into space? Make them some other civilization's problem?"

Ava yells down, "Hey! Jasper don't start talking crazy! It's about application not about nature!" She looks to you, "Speaking of which, throw that thing into the engine dock so we can fire up some of these new systems! Don't tell me we stole all that Eggman tech just for the heck of it."

You shake your head, finishing the bottle of water and snatching the emerald back from the bat. "Shut it Ava, let the kid look at the rock of infinite power." You chuckle to yourself and walk below deck. The atmosphere of the ship started to feel peaceful to you at some point. It was hard to say when exactly but between meeting Ava on the docks that day and bringing the fight to the Doctor everything else kinda've just fell into place...

You arrive in the engine room, Viper tending to the various system readouts behind their mask. Setting the emerald down in front of them you smirk. "We win again."

Viper takes the emerald in hand, pressing a button beside a clear case and setting the emerald inside. "So we're one step closer to fixing all the damage he's caused..." They stare in the emerald's direction. "You do good work, East. I'm still not sure about you but- I can admit that you have yet to fail what you set your mind to do."

You raise an eyebrow, Viper was new enough where you still couldn't figure out their deal. Still, having an echidna on board felt like an advantage when it came to handling the emeralds. If only Knuckles knew about them, he would lose his mind... "I have nothing to prove to you. You have your secrets and I have mine, as long as I can trust you to do your job I don't care outside of that."

They look in your direction, "Is that so? Quite troublesome indeed..." They press a few buttons as lights illuminate the room, various unused systems now becoming operational with the emerald's energy. "The emerald is installed, basic electricity and motor functions have been made functional."

You nod to them, "Keep us updated on the status of the Doctor's tech, it has many backdoor protocols and if we're careless he could take over our entire system autonomously."
