staring. the last english class of the day had started seamlessly, casting a blanket of peacefulness over the classroom. as the afternoon sun gently slanted through the windows, kunimi, the last thing he wanted was to surrender to the siren song of drowsiness.

battling the heavy lids that threatened to close, he struggled to stay engaged during the discussion.

in contrast, y/n was a model of attentiveness. english, though not her mother tongue, held no dominion over her confidence. she had learned english by immersing herself in american shows from a young age, adapting to the language with remarkable ease.

as the class delved into the pages of the assigned book, the teacher singled out y/n with a simple yet daunting command, "l/n, please read chapter 6 to the class." his words were like a spotlight, drawing the collective gaze of the room upon her.

a nervous gulp betrayed her discomfort, as she found herself the center of attention. summoning her courage, she rose from her seat, clutching chapter 6's page, and cleared her throat hesitantly.

"uhhh..." she stuttered, the unease of public speaking compounded by the presence of kunimi, who had rarely seen her in such a spotlight.

but as she started reading, her words flowed with fluency and clarity, guiding her classmates through the text with her impeccable english. while most of the class immersed themselves in their books, kunimi's focus remained steadfastly fixed on the reader.

his admiration for her linguistic skills grew, and he couldn't help but wonder about the source of her language capability. though he was supposed to be engrossed in the book, he was unwilling to avert his gaze.

the teacher, however, wasn't oblivious to the male's wandering attention. interrupting y/n's reading, he admonished, "wait, l/n, let me stop you there," she looked up, her heart racing as she questioned if she had made a mistake.

the teacher redirected his words to kunimi, "stop looking at her and look at your book."

a collective "oooohhh~" rippled through the class as they playfully teased the two, causing kunimi to feel a surge of embarrassment, though he maintained a facade of composure. y/n, still standing, found herself in the pain of an unfamiliar situation, her heart pounding, uncertain of how to react.

"do you have feelings for her, kunimi?" the teacher's unexpected question hung in the air, instantly captivating the classroom's attention. evryone eagerly awaited kunimi's response. in a barely audible mumble, he answered, "no."
