You sing,
You sing so much, your mother gets mad at you
You sing so much, your dog probably gets tired of your voice
You sing anything from Johnny Cash to Beyoncé
from The Temptations to 5 Seconds of Summer
Music has always healed you and it'll heal you again
You've always sang
Vacation Bible School and hymns at church, when your faith was strong
Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings when your faith was not
and your mother sang off-key to classic rock on the radio
and your father sang softly to classic country on the radio
on long drives home
on long drives when anger was in the air
on long drives when you were going somewhere
different, new
same, old
you'll always sing
you know
singing is just a piece of your soul
so you sing
you've always sang
and you'll sing in times of hardship
and you'll sing in praise
you're singing right now
and you'll sing again.
