Chapter Nine

I lay looking up at the ceiling of Lucas’ spare room, just minutes ago he had carried me from the sofa in the living room and tucked me up into bed. I awoke when he was halfway up the stairs but pretended to still be asleep. Today has to be one of the best Christmases I have experienced, I’m really happy that he liked his bracelet and I absolutely love mine and my new perfume. When I go back to school after the break all the girls will be in envy when they smell the scent. We had dessert and it was safe to say I was absolutely stuffed and I’ve probably put on a few extra pounds. Throughout the past few hours before falling asleep downstairs I could see him regularly glance at me and sometimes they were prolonged stares which made me want to smile and laugh but I managed to keep a straight face. I’m not sure if he was staring at me because he thinks I’m weird or for some other reason but every single time his stare has the same effect on me.

I awoke a few times during the night forgetting where I was and assumed I was back at home all alone but then I looked at my surroundings and remembered I was at Lucas’ which comforted me straight away.

I was undecided on what to do as I woke up on Boxing day, it would be rude if I wandered around his house while he was asleep, but the only way to find out if he’s awake is to go into his room. When I came to a decision I ended up changing my mind.

“Grow some balls you can’t sit here all day wondering if he’s awake,” I muttered to myself as I swung my legs over the side and stood up. Feeling self-conscious, still half asleep, I waddled into the en suite and stared in the mirror. My eyes were slightly blood shot after I had rubbed them in an attempt to get rid of any sleep. I ran a brush through my hair which smoothed it out and quickly moisturised my face which gave me a bit of a healthy glow.

‘One, two…” I counted down in my head as my hand gripped my bedroom door ‘three.’ I took a deep breath and winced as I gently opened the door. I glanced around suspiciously looking out for any movement and listening for any sounds. I planned on peeking in his bedroom and if he was still asleep I would return to my bedroom where I would amuse myself until he got up. I crept out onto the landing, my bare feet felt cold at the contact of the polished floorboards. The whole way to his door I subconsciously held my breath. I had another dilemma, do I knock or just call his name? I raised my hand and curled my fingers in in preparation to knock-

“Good morning,” my whole body flinched and I even let out a small yelp. I spun around as fast as lightening to be greeted with a bare chested Lucas.

He wore a simple pair of black jogging bottoms and nothing else. A flush of heat washed over my body as I felt embarrassment rise to my face. He casually sipped on a cup of tea, his biceps flexed as he brought the cup to his mouth. I didn’t know where to look, it was a very awkward situation.

“I- I was coming to see if you were awake,” I stuttered looking down at the floor.

He lowered his mug after taking a sip “Yes I’m awake. What do you fancy doing today?”

“I don’t have a clue,” he walked around me and entered his room. I stayed glued to the spot.

“Well I was thinking we could go swimming and then maybe go out for a meal?” he suggested as he exited his room again. He slipped his arms through a black short sleeved t-shirt and pulled it over his head finally covering his perfectly formed chest.

“That sounds like a plan however I don’t think any swimming pools will be open on boxing day,” I reminded him.

“I know, it’s a good job we have our own pool then isn’t it?”
