Chapter 17

Leave now the voice says to me as I enter Abigail's room. Abigail is holding onto my hand, and Father Margolis is holding onto his cross, wrapping it around his hands, and murmuring soft words under his breath. I can't make out what he is saying, but it seems as if he is talking in another language.

"There is a strong presence in this room," Father Margolis says, his face that has turned pale from the coldness of the room. "We are not alone," he says scouting the room, and then turning to me. "We are close to where Abaddon has been summoned. I need you to promise me that whatever happens, you do not succumb to the demons tricks. Can you promise that to me?"

"What kind of tricks are you talking about Father?"

"A demon, a very powerful demon such as Abaddon, when being exorcised will fight hard in resisting leaving our world. They can create images, imitate voices, impersonate personalities of those you know, and even make you question your own sanity. I need to know that I can trust you, that whatever happens, you will remain strong; no matter how dark your mind may fall. Do I have your promise?"

"You do."

"This will all be over soon," Father Margolis says in a soft tone, placing his hand on my shoulder. "No matter how dark the world will seem my son, the light that will bring you back is standing beside you. You have to believe in yourself that you can overcome this, not just for yourself, but for both you and your daughter."

"But, what-what if I can't? What if I'm not strong enough?"

"Love is the strongest gift of all," he smiles and points to my chest. "You have what they don't." I stare down towards my chest, and to Abigail. She smiles up at me and grabs onto my hand, clutching it strong.

"Are you ready to begin?"

"I am," I lie to him, looking into his eyes and telling him that I can be strong enough for both me and Abigail. We have both been through so much, that in my heart I know that I cannot fight this.

"Then we will begin the cleansing," Father Kinderman says, his thumb half covering the mouth of the vial, sprinkling its contents all over the house and then begins saying, "In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and God our almighty father..."

The lights start flickering weirdly in the room. On and off, on and off, on and off they go. The room is icy cold, and a misty fog starts appearing from underneath the wardrobe door that quickly surrounds the room.

"Father Kinderman?" I shout. "What is happening? What should I do?"

Whispers, and more whispers start filling my head. Let me take you, let me take you, you are not strong or worthy enough to defy me. Believe in me, and I will make you stronger than you have ever been before. All you have to do is believe in me the voice then cackled in a sickening laughter.

"Get out of my head!"

"Daddy, don't listen to the voices!" Abigail holds onto me as I drop to the floor.

You believe in me don't you? The voice asks me, its voice more gentle but cold. I know that you believe in me. I can already feel you beginning to slip away. You think that cunt priest can save you from me? You're mine, and so is your bitch daughter. I can't wait to see what she tastes like.

"You will never have my daughter!" I shout to myself, covering my hands over both my ears. Its foul words ere painful to my mind, like broken glass ripping itself slowly down my skin.

Why can't I? Do you really think anyone can save you? Why don't you just give up, and join us. Your bitch wife is here too, she misses you. She wishes you were here with her. Why don't you come and say hello? Yes that's it. Come and say hello and you can be happy once again. Don't you want to see her again?

"You're lying!" I shout.

Am I? Are you sure I am lying? Would you like to speak to her? She would very much like to speak to you. She told me so.

"No! I don't believe you. I don't believe you!"

Christian is that you? Lorraine's soft voice speaks to me. I miss you Christian. I'm so lonely down here. There is no point fighting anymore Christian. Just give up; you don't need to fight anymore. Give up, and we can both be together again. We can be together forever.

"You're not my wife. I know who you are, and I know what you are not. I will not give into your tricks."

Christian, do you remember that day when you asked me to marry you? It was the happiest moment of my life. It was cold, raining, and you took me to my favourite place. You remember that place don't you Christian? Please tell me that you remember.

"I do," I reply

And you told me how we would always be together forever, and that even death could never break us apart. You promised me that we would always be together. Now is your chance to keep that promise, and come be with me.

"What about Abigail? What about our daughter that we created? How can I just leave her?"

You're not strong enough to do what is needed. Give up Christian, and Abigail can be with us. We can be a family again. You don't know how much I have missed you both. I love you both so much. I want to see both your faces again. All you have to do is stop fighting it, and just let go.

"You must resist the voice!" Father Kinderman shouts, appearing from the mist.

"I- I can't resist. I can see her now, I can see her face. She looks so beautiful Abigail; she looks as beautiful as ever. You should see her Abigail, you should see her," I smile. Lorraine is standing on the opposite side of the room, her angel like face smiling at me with her dark brunette hair that falls luxuriously down her shoulders. She was just as beautiful as I had remembered her. She holds her hand out to me, as a piercing bright light glows from around her.

Take my hand Christian, and we can be together. All you have to do is take...my...hand... her voices echoes, and then disappears.

"It is not real Christian," Father Kinderman says to me, but his voice becomes distant. "Where-ever you are Christian, you must believe. You must believe that's its not real, and these are the tricks that I told you about. That is not your wife that you are looking at. Can you hear me Christian? That is not your wife!" he shakes me that brings me out of my hallucination.

Father Kinderman places his hand onto me that makes my skin crawl. His hands that felt like a fire onto my skin, that made me howl in pain.

"Do not touch me!" I bellow, my voice booming like a sudden thunder. What is happening to me? Torturous voices begin to surround my mind, not just one, but many.

"You must not give in Christian, you must not give in!"

"I can't... it's too strong!" I screech in pain. "It hurts so much. Why does it hurt so much? Why can I feel all its pain?" I let out a howling scream that shatters the windows of the room. "Why do I feel so angry?"

"Because you no longer have control of your body, and soon you will become one with the darkness. I need you to stay strong and listen to my voice, no matter how distant your mind will fade. Follow my voice, and I will bring you back to the light."

My eyes start to blur and I begin to feel nausea's. Father Kinderman voice stars to become less and less clear, his words fading from my mind like a distant memory as I feel myself falling further into the darkness.

"Remember...follow...my...voice...-"
